You say "all are welcome to particpate", and this is great and very encouraging! But...do you have suggestions/observations around age, fitness, etc.? The rundowns would seem to suggest that it wouldn't be a good idea to show up with your walker. So far, I can hold my own in CQB, but wonder about being able to hang in there on the Match 12 rundowns 400 to 300 to 200 to 100, etc.

Run downa are in Match 11, 13 and 14 with the latter being from 500-400-300-200 just to clarify.

Each rundown is only 100yds or metres depending on the range use (Amiens is still in yds as I recall) and you fire 10 rounds from each successive mound. This actually gives you quite a bit of time to catch your breath.

It's a competition, not life or death. Come out and push yourself to try to do something that you think may beyond your current capabilities....you will likely find a pleasant surprise. Worst comes to worst, you don't get all your rounds off after a hop...no real loss in the big picture and you will for sure get a higher score by showing up than by staying home.

In the mean time, get out and walk/jog/run or bike or whatever you like to get more active if you are concerned. As long as you don't cause yourself an injury in getting excercise you will probably benifit from it regardless. Use the rundowns as motivation if that helps (I helps me).

Now if you have an injury, disability or medical condition that prevents you from doing the rundowns I would expect that you could be cleared at the line before the rundown starts and you could make your way down at a walking pace. Trust me, you will keep up. The run is not that fast and everybody shoots 10 rounds at each mound. Even walking you will have to pause at each mound before the next advance.

With m1 on May 14th being one day only, how's it going to be different from m2, m3 and m4? Truncated COF?

Sorry I don't often check here. If you have any questions it'll always be faster to send me an email to the address above.

As for a 1 day vs 2 match, it should ideally be 2, I just didn’t get the range on Sat so we have to make do with just Sunday. Only in the most ideal circumstances can we get through a complete match in a day. Volunteers to help, small numbers of participants, everything going right ...

Due to having only 1 day, we may not get through all 4 matches. Priority will be given to the longer range matches.

Just to comment on fitness, the run downs are a really more of a jog down. What people complain about is the kneeling and the position changes, standing to kneeling back to standing and repeat. It's not usually the run downs that cause the issues for people, it is the bad knees usually. We do have a competitor who, I believe, is in his seventies who does just fine.

Knee pads can help a lot! No shame in using them.

Super short notice but we've got the range for an extra SR day. Saturday Nov 4 on Vimy range, CFB Borden just got approved.

We'll run through some practice relays in the morning focusing on:
300 mover with shot indication to get the lead right
400 and 500 for zeroes and some longer distance practice

We'll end the day running through Match 14 (the 500yd rundown) followed by scores and awards.

Figure the round count will be 50rnds for match 14 and then another 60 for the practice stages, say 150 total to be safe.

Gate will be open at 8AM, range safety briefing at 8:30

$10 for ORA members. ORA guest policy still in effect. Short term ATT's will be needed if you don't have one valid for DND ranges. It might be tight for time to get one from the CFO.

Please let me know right away if you're interested in coming. If not, see you next year in 2018
