Anyone going to the ORA Training Day Sunday April 23 at Mon Range in Borden?
This is mostly for new shooters looking to improve their skills in grouping and plotting. See the ORA web page for more details.

Here are a few observations I made during the Training Day. This day was put together to get new shooters into the long range game and help them with some wind reading, grouping and plotting. I hope they all got something out of it besides getting damp and cold.
Just about all the new shooters were 30 years of age or older, with the exception of my 16 year old daughter (don't go there). I may be under-estimating here but it might be safe to say that most were 40+. Only one female other then my daughter.
Looks like the F(M) class will be starting to roll at the ORA this year.
Rifles were factory bolt guns with scopes with the exception on one M1A or M-14 or maybe even a Garand (I didn't get a close enough look).
I think these training days will pay off to keep new shooters and give them a good head start for the shooting season.
So, where are all the young shooters that want to learn about the game?

I was there, my 2nd day out with ORA (First was intro day the day before). I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and learned a lot. I was using my Savage 12FVSS (bought from Ric) with Harris Bipod and Bushnell 3200 10X40.

Everyone was great, eager to share ideas and coach me through the day. There was not a lot of wind, but enough to get a flavour of what to do, and lots of advice on how to deal with it.

You will definitely see me out again, for training and comps, F class and hope to shoot some Precision also.

Ron

(BTW, I'm mid 30's)

Ron,
You were one of the youngters out there.
The wind was just enough to push you out of the V ring if your coach wasn't on the ball. I had a couple vetern shooters that wouldn't believe me at first when I told them to make 1/4 or 1/2 minute changes. At 600 they made the changes I was calling and put 90% into the V. They were quit happy after that.
I was the guy gimping around on the bad leg, coaching on target 22.

I was shooting on 23, with Dave Steed. I did some 1/4 or 1/2 minute changes, and kept things around the V Bull, or at least in the Bull.

Hope to see you at Cedar Springs soon.

OK, now I remember, I thought I saw that rifle before. We will be glad to have you down to Cedar Springs. The 1000 yard firing point should be started soon.
