Browsing through some gun pages I came across the CZ 527 .223 American Synthetic. I did have a 527 Varmint Kevlar a while back but ended up selling it because I didn't like the stock (palm swell) and didn't like the trigger guard (looked too much like a moisin nagant). Anyway, it looks like they got went to a flush magazine system and introduced a second synthetic stock. It does look very sweet. Anyone have one of these yet?

Mine should be here by Monday. Only way it could be better is if it was stainless.

Looks sweet. I have been thinking about a 527 in .223 for quite some time myself. What twist rate do those ones have? What are you planning on doing with it? Target? Hunting?

Where did you order it from if you don't mind me asking?

Sad, that high quality all metal center feed detachable box magazine which makes the trigger guard "look like a mosin" was something we pay $1000 to get on precision rifles. Probably the best factory magazine and trigger system available in a rifle under $3000, and right on par with those above the figure as well. Tupperware has its place as well, but when it's running against the excellent Kevlar stock or the fine Turkish walnut... forgive me for missing its appeal. I'm most definitely luke warm on this one. Not really a precision rifle with that skinny barrel profile, this would have been more fitting in hunting and sporting.

too bad the stock is tupperware and not fiberglass

the set trigger on my 527 American is amazing. 16 ounces I believe

Ardent: This rifle still can use the 5 rd mags if you are interested (it comes with a 3 rd mag). The triggerguard is FUGLY - apparently that opinion is shared by many others as CZ is rolling this one out to make the general public happy. This rifle is essentially the same as the standard 527 with only a different trigger guard and stock. Depending on how this shoots it can be in precision rifles. The rifle reminds me a lot of a silhouette rifle and I don't see any issues with that type of rifle in this subforum.

Beerbaron: I ordered it from GunsNThings in AB. They are really good. I ordered it in last week and will expect to see it either today or Monday. Price was definitely cheaper then Wholesale Sports.

Tod: I don't mind CZ's tupperware stocks. My 452 Style stock is very rigid and not at all like Remington's SPS series (flexible to say the least) I am confident that the stock for this one will be just as good if not better. I probably will still have the rifle pillar bedded, trued and accurized but I am going to shoot it first w/o any work to see how she does.

Twist on this one is 1-12" I am hoping she will good enough to stabilize a 60 grain bullet but I will have to see when she shows up.

Wowsa... 3 round mag capacity in .223? I've just never been one to give up function, especially when it's as well designed as the CZ527 detachable magazine system. I actually really like how it looks as well. I am glad however we have these options and we all have different tastes, I just truly hope this isn't the future of the 527. A 3 round capacity, 1/12" twist, light barrel, plastic stocked rifle... seems like a massive neutering of the 527 when compared to your former Kevlar. To each their own right! Hold nothing against you for being into it, just don't get it personally. 1/12" should shoot a 60, but there isn't many good bullets in that weight range for precision shooting at any decent range, 68's minimum and 1/9" for that but this is just my opinion.

1:12 is ok for lighter bullet and bullets that easily fit in a magazine, but I don't get the market they're going after... It is a sporter design, not a target rifle, and it has only a 3 round magazine.

It has all the design features of a decent hunting rifle except in the wrong caliber and twist.

As long as you like it, that's all that counts.

Ardent: I don't know about neutering - you are comparing apples to oranges. This rifle isn't meant to be a prone position heavy weight varminter. It is a lightweight rifle (5 lb vs the 7.5 lb kevlar) This isn't the future of the 527 it is another model in the 527 American lineup. This was never advertised as a long range precision shooter - it is closer range precision shooter (<500m) If you consider that precision shooting events are at various ranges (1, 2, 3, >1000m) I don't quite get what you dislike about this rifle. If you are saying that this is a crappy >500m rifle I won't disagree but I like that CZ is responsive to what the NA market wants. Later on, if I decide to re-barrel/re-stock I won't be stuck with the kevlar's bottom metal and stock which I happen to dislike; I can always use the 5 rd mags (best of both worlds); you can't use the 3 rd mags in your rifle, even if you wanted to, unless you change the bottom metal. Not to say that the Kevlar is a bad rifle but if it makes you happy... it doesn't matter what I think does it?

Back to the original topic anyone else got one of these yet?

I actually like the CZ-527 Kevlar set up. It's different and offers some nice features/quality at a very good price. The HS stocks are one of the best for synthetic. Until I had an HS stock I didn't like synthetics at all.

As for the new CZ 527 that's posted. It looks Ok. Clean lines. But... I already have a real Remington, I don't need a clone ;)

Like others on this board, I'm also confused at the market they're going for. It does look like a clean lined hunting rifle only in the wrong caliber. It's not a varminter, it's not a tactical rifle. But then with the caliber choice it's not a hunting rifle

The old one looks Ok to me :)

Well, the rifle arrived today. I am pretty impressed with what I received. Besides a few small things that could be improved I think this is an excellent little rifle. Just need to shoot a few rounds to confirm if this is a keeper but just some general impressions about what I received:

1.) The rifle came packed pretty standard from the last 527 I had and to two 452's I had. A nice fitting box, rifle wrapped in a plastic bag, manual, test target, and warranty. Bolt was wrapped separately and of course everything was greased in standard fashion. Generally, I find CZ's are better packed then Remingtons or Winchesters which is a bet of a concession as I really love Remingtons. As well, I find it odd that Remington never comes with a test target showing that they test fired the rifle (which I am sure they do) which is a nice little guarantee that the rifle functions.

2.) A nice little touch was the free steel one piece rings which my last 527 didn't come with (it had two piece rings) and the 452's don't come with at all. As well as the sling loops and swivels.

3.) I immediately took the rifle apart and degreased everything and cleaned it up with CLP.

2.) I did notice that the action screws were torqued very tightly but for the most part everything is a very tight fit. I was a bit disappointed to find that the barrel wasn't freefloated but the stock is extremely rigid so I am not concerned that there will be much flexing. That being said I will probably send this rifle off to be bedded and freefloated as I do with all my rifles.

3.) Magazine was nice and tight and loading 3 rounds of 223 wasn't difficult but noticeably tighter then on my .221's internal magazine. Running three rounds through the action was very slick. My last 527 wasn't so slick and it actually dented a few of the rounds on loading which really turned me off.

4.) After lapping the rings and mounting the scope I noticed that the scope seemed to sit high. As 527's are notorious for being more difficult to scope because of the bolt handle and limited ring options. I was pleasantly surprised to see that everything fit together and eye relief wasn't an issue - I did have this problem with my last 527 and these rings are noticeably higher - the funny thing is that my cheek weld doesn't seem to be too high. I guess I will have to shoot this rifle and find out for sure.

Overall, I found that this rifle feels a lot like my 452 Style which it eerily mimics - this is a huge bonus for me as I really like my 452 and it just fits well. I will give you guys a range report asap but initially I think this rifle is really nice. If you are a Silhouette/Style fan I think you will find this a nice centrefire brother to it. The key differences between the stocks is the foregrip and texturing on the 527 It almost has a hogue-like grip which is nice and easy to hold.

I have a CZ527 American in a 221 FB,.....great little rifle, that detachable mag pops out into your hand easily and can be topped with rounds without taking your eyes off the gopher patch...love it.

Is the 3 round mag available separately yet? There was a guy in the US modifiying the trigger guards and mags on these, If a guy could get the mag modifying the guard can't be that hard...
