Ordered an ACOG, received the wrong model. Now what?

So I ordered an ACOG TA33R-8 with the red chevron .223 reticle from Barton's to use on my AR-15. Got the package today and while the box has the TA33R-8 label on it, what was inside the box is actually a TA33G-9 which is the green chevron .308 reticle. Barton's is now closed so I sent them an email to see about getting this sorted out. But worst case scenario, let's say they don't have the right model there to exchange for me and I decide to keep it (they had the best price by a fair margin). My range is a maximum of 200 yds but most of my shooting is for 3-Gun between 15-100 yds. Would I even notice any issues using the .308 reticle if I usually use a 50/200 yd zero?

Green is better than red (for my eyes) - but I'd be choked with the reticle. You paid for what you want - you should get it. As noted - it will be close 'enough' - but that's not the point.

Keep in mind an ACOG is not a precision optic. It's for shooting dudes in the face.

Get the ballistics curve for your ammo and compare that to the reticule angular sizes. It might be close enough to use. And - or shoot it and try it out.

I also prefer the green reticle over the red. Not sure about the drop calibration with the .308 reticle though. Good call on the TA33 in any case. I have both the Elcan OS3 and TA33 and prefer the TA33 in many ways (not that the OS4 doesn't also have its advantages)

EDIT - wow, they DO have decent TA33 prices!

Ok, found a couple of different ballistics charts that show a half inch difference at 200 yds between 147 gr .308 and 62 gr 5.56. Now, I tend to shoot 55 gr ammo as it is usually cheaper but it seems like the difference should be negligible enough for 3-Gun. I do prefer the green reticle over red but no one had the green .223 reticle in stock. I guess I'll wait and see what Barton's has to say.

Quarter-MOA difference? I'd keep it.

Those prices are bananas. Good score. You can't find them used for that price in the EE.

Yeah. I'm guessing old inventory from when our dollar was a little stronger. Also, the R-8 and G-9 models seem to be discontinued. The same model now has the model # as TA33-C-400128. Everywhere else that has inventory right now is around the $1600 range.

Those are the Gen 2's that is why. Alas they bumped up the prices on all Acogs. $1600 sounds about right.

To the OP, yeah I saw those 2x Ta33's for $1100 and got all excited months ago just to find out they were in .308 Win.

Bartons had those in stock for quite some time.

I'd return it and get the one I wanted to begin with. Purchasing items shouldn't be a compromise on what you end up getting. If they can't exchange it and they offer you the option to keep the current one, I guess that's on you if you think you'd never see that price again. In the end, it won't be the worst thing. :p

So I decided to keep the TA33G-9. I really do prefer the green reticle and for what I am going to do with it the .308 calibrated reticle won't be an issue. Now waiting for Barton's to send me the G-9 box along with a pre-paid shipping label to mail back the R-8 box. Also working on a bit of a refund so we'll see what they do. That will determine if I ever buy from them again.

If they can't exchange it you can probably dump it on the ee for more then you paid with the bcl 102 out now I'm sure someone with snatch it up.
