I'm going to pull the trigger on a Cadex Competition chassis for my Tikka CTR 308. Mostly for AI magazine reasons (CTR mags fall out of the gun every shot when the mag has 4 or 5 rounds left in it), as well as bipod availability.

Aside from the $500 price, why would I choose the cadex folding over fixed skeleton stock option? Just OAL for packing it around? I don't see any other differences.

I'd say more compact for transport, and easier to clean, fold it out of the way and no problem accessing for your chamber guide and rod without removing or lowering the cheek rest or shoulder pad.

I own the non folding, but have shot the folding stock.

The hinge on the folder is right where I typically place my thumb, so it was a comfort thing for me.

You should try and handle one before you buy if possible

I have the fixed stock and have to take the entire stock of to get a one piece rod ,cleaning from chamber to bore.
During break in, it took a bit longer. If you got the money why not, if you don't require a folding stock ,save the few hundred and put it towards ammo or bipod.
It's like a sunroof on a truck....

The cheek riser is that high at its lowest point!?!

That makes me rethink it all together. I'll have a better look at one when I get back to Red Deer or Calgary I guess.

Thanks gents!

I ordered mine with the folding stock. I do not want to try and get my check weld "just right" every time I finish cleaning my rifle. I don't want to have to loosen the height adjustment, lower, clean and then lift to the same height. Repeat as required. I have been doing this for the past year. It's a 1st world problem and annoying.

Watching people who just spin it out of the way at the range on their Cadex seemed like it was worth the money. I had hinge envy.

The other bennifit is I can now put it in the back of the SUV without having to lower the seat. It should fit sideways now. It should also fit under the seat or bed in the trailer.

There is also the cool factor, it looks way cooler.
