ordering from US

This may come as a stupid question but I've never bought optics before...

Is it legal to buy optics/sights from a US company/website and have shipped to Canada?

What is the process with that? Simple online order?

Legal in Canada? Absolutely.

Legal in the U.S.? Absolutely but not without a lot of costly paperwork and permits.

I doubt you'll find a reputable U.S. retailer that will ship to you.

4scopes.com in the states has a export permit and you don't have to fill out anything special, just go to the website and place an order. They ship with fedex and they collect the tax at your door, and even when you factor that in you may end up still getting a deal depending on what scope you want, who has it in Canada and the exchange on the dollar at the time of ordering.

not only is this legal but many members on this forum have ordered from them in the past and posted nothing but positive results and recommendations

I've bought off amazon being shipped from the states and it wasn't even questioned. Iunno...

No costly paperwork involved. Export permit from the US handled by the dealer and an import permit from Canada, free from CDN gov't, supplied by the purchaser that gets sent to the US dealer. No fuss, just a little time consuming. Worth it for the Deltapoint I bought from Webyshops in Texas. 4scopes.com seems easier.

Depending on brand, your scope may not have warranty on this side of the 49th as well if bought from the U.S.

Was there any US export documentation with the scope?

Any number, code or paper showing that the scope export was filed and approved by Uncle Sam? it will be very obvious if this was supplied

Did you sign any end user certificates BEFORE the scope order was approved? You would have sent the original back to the US so you would know.

A FedEx receipt does not count.

4Scopes ships USPS if you ask them, That way you avoid paying Taxes and CBSA.

I saved a ton of money buing my Scopes from them...

4scope are not an authorized dealer for Sightron, so no warranty. We also think their export is illegal.

CBSA routinely hits USPS parcels up for taxes, duty and handling fees. Yours might have got through but don't count on it next time or every time.

Depends on brand. Some manufacturers warranty their scopes with no questions....others won't.
