Does the ITAR export dollar limit raising to $500 mean we can order optics from the states? and has anyone ordered from a company in the states before? I just placed an order for a red dot sight and they didn't list any taxes on my final price... does this mean that I will be charged customs and duties at delivery? How much do you think that would be on a $400 item?

If it matters... I ordered from a "planet of optics"... I don't know if we are allowed to say the actual name of the dealer, don't want to break any forum rules.

I tried to order an Aimpont from larue tactical and the order went through, my card wasn't charged but I got an email saying that it fell under import and export list and was considered a gun part and couldn't be sold to me.

Why not just buy your optics here in Canada? I don't think there is a huge $$ savings ordering from the states, and you can get virtually everything here that you can down there. Also, if you have a warranty or service issue, you may be better off dealing with your retailer here. Mind you, having said that, most times any optics with defects do have to go back to the manufacturer for resolution.

Agreed, all the canadian distributors keep a registry of what was imported and sold in Canada, so for warranty claim you would have to ship back to the States to get service done. Not saying that will happen but when it does you won't save any money there. And you might get nailed at customs too, this is always a guess.

Most of our Canadian retailer keep the prices fairly low, if you look around and make phone calls you can probably get a good deal.
