I know they can't export rifle stuff like powder, cases and bullets without a permit, but what about shot and other components like wads. I know I can get lead shot here in Canada.

You won't save money on US source shot, paying shipping and US$ exchange.
US shooters are having trouble finding shot.

Some people act like certain things are sufficiently minor that they don't get covered by ITAR, but my reading of it is that anything that is an ammunition compoenent is treated the same as ammunition.

At one time shotgun stuff wasn't included in the ITAR controls but then it was and the US retailers quit sending to Canada.
Since then some of the restrictions were relaxed but I don't know if that includes shotgun stuff or not. Probably take some difficult research to figure out and there's a really good chance most US retailers will just say no anyway because the Canadian market isn't big enough to be worth the effort.

I was looking for bismuth, a non toxic for use with an older shotgun . I'll use the shot gun on turkeys, he said hopefully.

That would have been useful information in the first post.
If you search Bismuth shot on this site, you would have found that a few have successfully ordered Bismuth shot from Rotometals.

Shot is expensive and shipping costs makes it worse. I've been looking at the home made Russian shot making videos on youtube, might have to try that.
