Ordering Sights From Brownells? *Now It Fits*

Has anybody out there ordered sights from Brownells recently, say within the last couple of months?

I'm looking to get some XS and maybe NECG sights.

I'm wondering if XS and NECG are currently on "The List". Also what kind of time-frame I might be looking at and any difficulties that might arise.

I ordered and paid for some XS sights from one of the sponsoring dealers in June '09. They have no idea when I can expect them. Am I going to run into the same problem if I try to order them myself, paying for stuff that never seems to show up?

Don't know if this helps but two weeks ago I ordered a Williams WGRS peep site from them for one of my 336's.

It was in my mail box this morning ;)

Well, I called Brownell's on Friday and ordered an XS mauser rear sight and front post. I recieved an email later that day confirming that the order had been shipped. It should arrive in about 2 weeks. Both items had a side note * NEW PRODUCT SUPPLIMENT* so I'm curious to see what I get.

Well my sights came in from Brownell's today. Parcel Post Air took 2/12 weeks. $16.16 in customs fees on a $90 order.

I ordered an XS Mauser 98 rear sight and a front post. The confirmation email from Brownell's said *New Product Supplement* next to the item #'s.

XS lists their M98 sight as fitting 98/96/95 Mausers. The picture on the website shows the sight on a 98 with the charging ramp intact.

I had planned to mount the sight on an as yet undrilled Stiga 96. I figured if it didn't work out on the 96 I could mount the sight on my Husky FN 98, my Parker Hale 98, my 1600 and so on, all having 1/2" spacing and the same reciever contour to the mauser 98's.

Well so much for thought. The sight I received won't come anywhere near fitting on a Mauser with the ramp intact. The hole spacing is .605" not .5" like all of my mausers are so it won't fit my FN, P-H, 1600 or any other gun I own.

This sight is pretty much usless to me unless I file out the ramp. I don't imagine it would be too easy to return either.

Anyone who has been thinking of getting The XS M98 sight for a mauser with the ramp in place should reconsider. It won't fit.

It's easy. Your "satisfaction guaranteed, forever".

Included with your order was a new order form and a yellow return form.
1. Fill out the yellow form.
2. Check the box to indicate to them whether you want a refund or a credit or an exchange.
3. Put the yellow form in the box with the sight.
4. Mail it back to Brownells.

Yeah, I looked over the yellow form when I opened the package. I just thought with shipping both ways and customs it would be a pain and it would cost me.

I'm sure I have myself to blame. It seems that I convinced myself this sight had 1/2" hole spacing, but today when I looked I couldn't find anywhere on the XS or Brownell's websites where it says that.
I was looking at a few different sights and I guess it was just too much for my poor little brain to keep straight.

Looking at the picture from the XS site... what I thought was a shadow where the sight meets the hump, could be a cutaway in the hump to clear the sight. Maybe it's made for a rifle with the hump filed out. It would fit if you notched it out.

I just bought an XS Sights Tall Weaver Backup ghost ring sight and NECG front sight ramp and posts and a couple Kick-Eez recoil pads from them fall last year.

you can get your customs ( actually probably only PST/GST) back if you kept the customs form. you have to show you returned it. lots of paperwork
