Just bought an older Valmet gun that came with some Sako scope rings. However, the rings are too low to fit a 40mm+ scope. I know Sako made low, mid, and high mount rings (I believe mine are mid). I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a set of high mount ones?

I'd add a picture of mine but I'm not sure how.

you just have to go to retailers with a large inventory of older guns and parts. there are some of these ringmounts around, but scarce. One possible source that i can't say has some or not, but worth a try is K&E gun parts in Saskatoon.

For some reason - I may be wrong - but I thought that Valmet used Tikka style rings and not Sako .... the Tikka bases had parallel grooved rails while the Sako style used ‘tapered’ grooved rails.... each style having rings to suit.

That's correct in later models. But the earlier models used the Sako mounts. They are indeed tapered.

Leupold makes a tapered Sako ringmount.

Personally, I'm not figuring the original Sako rings are much to look at, let alone being worth chasing down. Ymmv.

Millet also makes a set of rings for the Sako tapered dovetail.
