Original US GI M14 Question

The majority of M-14s were never issued with the selective fire parts installed. Some were. How do you determine if a given rifle was or was not configured as a machinegun at some time while in US service?

the only way to know would be to find out who it was issued to, then either what his trade was in the unit or go back to the battalion armourer- moreover, that wouldn't work as we have no idea whether there was an ftr was done and the parts removed and then it was put into stores,or whether it was just left as is- but rememeber, the history says that when the isrealis got these, they SELECTED the best as sniper rifles and PARTED OUT the rest- that means if you have the whole rifle, it's a sniper rifle, or was destined to be one- ( i don't think my trw was ever issued) -just as we have no idea who welded the selector shut- and a select auto sniper rifle makes no sense as far as i know

ok define select fire- multiple rounds expended with ONE PULL OF THE TRIGGER
grab any m14 that doesn't have the kit installed - SEE THAT THERE IS NO INTERACTION BETWEEN THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY AND THE RECEIVER- IT CANNOT EXPEND MULTIPLE ROUNDS WITHOUT THE KIT INSTALLED to HOLD THE HAMMER HOOKS BACK AND NOT ALLOW THE SEAR TO ENGAGE- i have both the norinco and m14 ( the real thing) the norc i have HAS HAMMER hooks but lacks the bits aft of the charging handle to go full auto- and the law says what it is, NOT WHAT IT'S CAPABLE OF- otherwise, ANY BOLT, PUMP, LEVER, OR WHATEVER IS "CAPABLE"- bill ruger, no less, turned a savage 99 into full auto- and that's documented - moreover , the last springfield i saw had HAMMER HOOKS on the trigger assembly- the new norincos don't

I think you know what I was getting at. I too have a "real" TRW M14, as well as multiple Norcs and a Polytech. Love em all.

Cheers,
BongoBob
