Original WW2 German K98k slings color?

Where the original K98k sling natural color or died a darker color?

They were oiled to preserve them. This made them dark. The leather also varied from light to dark also.

They vary from almost black to so light it's almost white.

Knowledge is key when looking for an original.

Typically earlier slings will be darker as they saw more use, later will be lighter.

If you come across any, check them over thoroughly for any markings ...
