Orion barrel...

Hi,

I am about to buy a 45 cal ML with a barrel which has been made by a company by the name of "ORION". I have heard of a Montana barrel co under the supervision of Jerry Cunningham ?

This ML is a great long range shooter, up to 1,000 yards !! She has won many international long range ML tournaments

She uses conical of 500 grains with 90 grains of Goef FFg. And she has a twist of 1:18 .

I am looking for informations on the "Orion Cie". This company does not seem to still be alive.

I would be very pleased if somebody could post some informations on this barrel.

Here is what I read and was told: (just to share)

It has been nearly 20 years ago, that the old Sharon Rifle Company, then working as the Montana Barrel CO., conducted an extensive destructive test series. This was done under supervision of Jerry Cunningham, of Orion Barrels, some of the best thousand yard barrels on the market now.

Orion is the company born from the Sharon Barrel; the Orion Barrel was operated by Jerry Cuningham for some 15 years; Orion and Sharon barrels were made with the same tools.

I don't think they are still being made. Seems like they changed names to Montanna Barrel Co when the guy sold the machinery ?

Jerry Cunningham owned and operated Orion Rifle Barrel Co.until becoming ill and is no longer making barrels

He was also known as Montana Rifle Barrel Co. before selling the buisness and later reopening as Orion.
His barrels were top notch

Jerry Cunningham of Orion Rifle Barrel Co. (RR2 137 Cobler Village Road, Kalispell, Montana, USA 59901) used to offer barrels in a variety of lengths and calibers with fast twist rifling .006-.008 deep.

Thanks Gerald, I was under the assumption, that Oregon Barrel had bought the Sharon barrel Co. ? In fact I bought a pistol barrel (no breech plug)from them 2 wks ago
Your new 45 cal sounds interesting, can you keep us posted on it.
