Anyone have or tried out an Orpaz holster they claim is Level II retention?

My Blade-Tech is fine but it is only held in by two tension screws that apply a clamping force and it order to have an unencumbered draw they need to be sort of loose. When running around at the range with my rifle, my pistol can come loose so I'd like another form of retention.

For level 2 retention, I see a lot of folks using Safariland holsters, they seem to be the go too for that type of thing, however a good friction retention holster should hold your pistol no matter what you are doing on the range. I use Solely Canadian holsters and have never had a single problem with a handgun coming loose in the holster, thru numerous competition and training sessions. If you get a top quality friction retention holster there is no need for level 2 retention, I highly recommend SolCan

Blade-Tech holsters should be able to be adjusted such that they have secure friction retention without an overly difficult draw in my experience. As stated above, you do not need retention devices just for running around. Also, keep in mind that a holster must still pass the Level 1 (friction retention) test with all locking devices defeated to meet the Level 2/3/4 standards:

I suspect that Orpaz holsters are probably comparable to Fobus, going by the pricing on their website, i.e. they are likely not a quality product.

Looks like they're a serpa-type holster and many ranges and disciplines wont allow them due to safety concerns. I think I'd steer away.

I use passive Blade-tech for all my DSSmatch and 3 gunning... No problems at all. You should be able to tighten it enough to hold while still getting a smooth draw.

How so? They use a thumb release to unlock the pistol just like the Safariland not the index finger like the Serpa’s.

I have yet to find a working bucket attachment for this holster. None of my BladeTech or Ghost will fit. Same thing for the BlackHawk Omnivore... great idea to invent something that can add a rail attachment to the gun to make any pistol with a front rail use that holster as a level 2 but if you want to change that buckle to something you are familiar with... good luck.

I don't understand what you are trying to say, bucket or buckle? Did you mean belt?

My bad... I confused the Orpaz with the Scorpus. Looks like the Orpaz is similar to the 5.11 Thumbdrive. I had a 5.11 Thumbdrive holster for my Glock. It was solid, but needed retraining. In the end I went back to my regular Bladetech. YMMV

sorry for typing the mesg on a phone with my fat fingers LOL. I meant the part you attach the holster to the belt. The Orpaz I got has a paddle attachment. All my other holster uses the Blade Tech one so I try to change that to use the Blade Tech instead.

Ah, okay. I did see the Orpaz can be supplied with a belt backing instead of the paddle, which can be removed.

After checking the pricing, I think I will simply go with a tried and true Safariland ALS.
