Morning All,

I've got an NS522 with a Vortex crossfire 6-24 on it. I have used it for silhouette which it's setup for, as well as some play on the bench. It's accurate enough I suppose though I've never been stupendously impressed with it (probably because I'm too cheap to splash out for anything more expensive than GM target).

Looking to get into ORPS here in Victoria and I'm wondering if it's suitable or if I should investigate something less boat anchor heavy.

What are the commonly used ORPS rifle/ammo choices? 10/22 fancied up?

You'll see all kinds of rifles at ORPS matches. 10/22s are common, CZ455/457, Savages. You can definitely shoot ORPS with what you have. Most guys are shooting FFP scopes as it's easier to hold over. Pretty much any decent ammo will do but you'll see lots of CCI, ELEY and SK at ORPS.

I use a Ruger 1022 with a Vortex Diamondback scope. My preferred ammo is Eley Club. Works for me.

Make sure your gun fits you. Know the holds with your rifle from 25-100 yards. Make sure you can hit relatively small targets at 100 yards. KYL racks at 50 with targets from 2" down to 1/4". Awkward positions and changing distances and positions all in one stage thats timed. As emerson stated FFP scope with tree reticle of some sort helpful. Can be done with SFP but much more difficult as ur holds will not be the same on different magnifications. Know ur equiptment and go have fun! the learning curves quick and almost all will help if asked. Its a lot of fun
