I just got back from a weekend at MilCun Marksmanhip Complex in Ontario's rugged cottage country near Minden. I used my 24" Tikka Tactical in .223 but most people had .308s.

We shot short range position matches such as 50M standing, kneeling at 100, etc and then went to 200M rapid follow up and movers, 300M agony snaps, 400M movers, 500M two-shot Targets of Opportunity (which was really fun!) from standing low ready down to bipod, and then we did 600M deliberates and an interesting 200 to 600 walk back simulating a sniper team withdrawal, taking shots at all mounds on the way back and scoring the group on one target.

Lots of laughs, and a good bunch of guys.

Just wondering. Were most of the people there professionals (police/military) or civvies? And how did they perform compared to the civvies? Did you have to have your own teams, or did you get assigned partners?

When I get myself a decent rifle, I'll definitely make it out to more OSA events.

Well, the civvy's and the Military/ex-Military guys fought it out  It was pretty close competition.

It was fun, but because of the holiday, the turnout was alot slimmer than we would have liked. Anything was possible though, if you had shown up with a team.

This was an Operational Shooting Association (OSA) event held at MilCun. (many have asked....MilCun is NOT an open club.)

Guests are welcome at OSA events.
The matches this weekend were not two person team matches, in the sense of a shooter and a spotter alternating, although there was a pair's aggregate generated from the scores. Shooters had to work out their problems without a spotter watching swirl. Makes the movers more challenging.
When the dates were set last spring, it was not noticed at the time that the match had been scheduled for the Thanksgiving weekend. A lot of folks simply could not attend.

It was great shooting at Milcun with everyone last weekend. The course of fire is challenging as there is no spotter to confirm your hunches. I understand there are winter shoots for precision/sniper types, and am looking forward to that also.
