Wow... Now I've got a few moments to process what happened on the Connaught Ranges over the 23-24 Sep weekend.

52 shooters, 13 targets used, no surprise that some of the Navy Petty Officers were making fun of my "girlie" voice after a few relays of yelling, "Targets Up, Targets Down" in that wind and rain.

What a fzcking turnout. It's tough trying to keep an eye on 13 advancing shooters during the CQB stage 75m to 50m advance with 2 shots on each fig. 11 target. Thanks to my wing officers for doing such a great job monitoring safety and passing on the instructions over those gale force winds of 48 kliks per hour and gusts to 65 kliks. Thanks to Shelldrake for all his fabulous help and I cannot forget his crew that helped me carry out a smooth March Out from Range Control. :p

We had shooters from Army, Navy , Air Force (Trenton), LEO community, and even from Quebec. yeah, baby!!

As usual each relay will take up to 45 minutes to shoot matches 1 through 4 at 200m. And 45 minutes for matches 5 through 8, not counting the time needed for all the butts changes, but what we found amazing was that each of the matches at 50m, 75m and 100m (snap & rapid) took about 7 minutes per relay. Holy cow , that was fast.

Things got even faster when we started the 75m to 50m Advance and double tap each of your 2 fig.11's. 20 rds needed and 4 magazines for this match. Each relay took ONLY 4 minutes, then we had to retrieve the magazines after we cleared the rifles and the firing line. Then it was down into the butts for scoring. Damn that was fast.

My thoughts ? Imagine running a line of 10 or 15 or 20 shooters on say.... Delta Range.. No butts, just 2 fig.11's in front of you. We could process many , many shooters all at once... Just imagine this CQB at NSCC or the CFSAC wannabe matches....

Lots of cash prizes handed out ! Lots of great shooting, but most of all after talking to shooting members of a unit, they were happier than pigs in slop all throughout the CQB matches on Sunday. They could not stop thanking me after the awards. My head could not get out of the portable where we carried through with the awards ceremony. :dancingbanana:

Holy Granola, we split from a Provincial Rifle Association and now look at our turnout...

Many thanks need to go out to the units that we tasked to help us run a super smooth match despite the Butts Officer screwing up and forcing a re-shoot of the Match 6 300 meter Snap with only 8 exposures. I wonder who that fool was?

I'll be posting many more gratitudes on this thread, gotta run, it's my lunch break....

Cheers,
Barney

Tell ya, it was one challenging 2 days. My M4 performed flawlessly, even though she was a little peaved at me for being in the rain saturday morning, the Sunday wind dried her out real good!! I just can’t believe the wind was only 50-65km/h, while in the butts I had just stepped back from the target racks to sit down, and freeken 2 wooden target stands came flying across right in front of me, these things were 2x2 solid wood stands, they had snapped right were they mount in the racks, about 5-6 stands had snapped!!!

This competition really took me away from bench shooting under decent conditions (this is easy to get good groups and shots),
Saturday weather conditions affecting 200m & 300m shooting, wind was affecting POI by 8-10 inches between a 200m zero & 300m, very challenging to adapt aiming to compensate.
Sunday wind was a freaken challenge to keep steady :runaway: during the CQB course of fire. Mag changes within the timing of the shooting was a challenge, I lost 2 shots on the run down because of it.

It was a great opportunuity to test the gear and shooting skills, I definetly need to work on the skills, I suck more than I thought. The folks were great, spoke with a bunch of the officers and ranks, some of the ones I spoke to were in waiting to go to A-stan.

More Gun nutz need apply for these shoots, it’s a blast regardless of weather. Some need to stop showing off their rigs and show off their skills.

Oh ya, and I won 120$ from the prize bucket (total $1400 in prizes). Prizes are given out in a #### load of categories, this gives a lot of people a chance to win something.
Was a great and fun shooting experience, now we need more civies so we can kick some mil-spec butt!! :D
