Is the Oshawa gun club a good one to join? I'm going to join a club in the spring and would like some info before doing so. I live in Brooklin, ON and have a choice between Oshawa, Port Perry, Orono or Pickering. I am also an avid rifle shooter so I would like the best of both worlds and bang for my buck. Thanks.

Dave.

I have been a member of Oshawa for just about a year. I think it is a pretty good club. Be aware it is Very shotgun oriented. The range is almost an after thought. It is a good range but very weekend hunter oriented. No FMJ, not really designed for any positions except bench. The good thing is the range is availible 7 days a week. 50, 100, 200, and 300 Yd targets.

Oshawa Members have reciprocity with Uxbridge. Members can shoot for member rates at both clubs. Something I found out this weekend apparently those members interested in hand gun can join Orono for no initiation and something like $100. The second is not 100% confirmed by me.

Medic:

Can a non member shoot sporting clays and 5 stand at Oshawa??

If so, can you give me details on days/times/prices etc.

I am really wanting to get out to shoot SC and 5S.

Thanks.

Triton / Waterfowler ... just get out there and do it !
Make your own decisions as to what you like or don't like about the Club.
Yes, maybe "shotgun" oriented, but very supportive of the shooting sports.

orono and oshawa used to have a agreerment but since oshawa got handgun they dont seem to honor anything with orono so ive been told

Due to the increase in memeberships for pistol and rifle the club is not accepting new members for the pistol/rifle range. New members are being accepted for skeet/trap/sporting only at this time.

The club has a very active pistol and rifle section, however due to the location of the range in respect to the club house, we see very little of the pistol/rifle shooters!

Oshawa is a great club for the shotgun sports.

However rifle & pistol seem to take 2nd place to the shotgun.

I used to be a member there but the situation on the pistol & rifle range caused me to join another club. That said I have many pleasant memories of OSGC.

Seconded!! theres a reason i didnt renew my membership there this year unless you own a nice shotgun your a second class member (nothing wrong with nice shot guns i own some) but they really dont cater to the restricted owners and theres a general FUDD mentality... though there are still lots of nice people there

For a rifle shooter in Brooklin, it's a no brainer. I'm not far from Brooklin, and enjoy the 300 yard rifle range, and the proximity.

I don't get out often enough, but think it is a great club.

I'm hoping to get out and shoot some trap this year - I'm pretty close to a newbie in that discipline ......

Shotgun Sports are a big part of shooting at Oshawa. They have a fully automated sporting clays course and 5 stand.

Skeet and trap are available as well.

If you have a SXS we're having a SXS shoot on May 1st.

Check out Oshawa's clays program for the upcomming season at The Lost Target.com.

I've been an very active member since 1988, when the club had 200 members; now >750. In all that time I have witnessed a shotgun vs rifle, and now pistol, issue at the club. I do not understand why this happens, but with the pistol training progams and improvements at the range I would almost think that the club is equally represented or maybe a little slanted to the rifle/pistol people.

Note that I shoot rifle as well and have many skeet shooting buddies who are very active rifle/pistol shooters too. Never heard any of them complain!

Come out and meet us and maybe give us a try!

Simple, "OLD BOYS CLUB".....! They do not want to come out of the dark ages, they still work on the "ah we have been doing it this way for 40 years", they do not want to look at the future of the sport and those shooters, they care about right now and themselves only.

OSGC is a nice club that offers a good selection of both rifle, handgun and shotgun shooting.

There is only one rifle/handgun range with limited bays for use. The Rifle/Handgun range is open 7 days a week for use (by means of a key that each member gets to unlock the gate). Shotgun is only open three days a week - Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday (sometimes it's open on Friday). I find the weekend to be VERY busy at the rifle range, especially on a nice day, but isn't that a good sign?

Rifle and shotgun shooting is open to the public (there is a fee), rifle range access is based on being escorted with a member and when the entire club is open due to the requirement of signing a waiver (Wed, Sat, Sun).

Steve David: You are making a statement that sounds like the Liberal PM want to be! State what you want and better yet tell a couple of directors at the Club!

Isn't that precious. You left because the club didn't "cater" to you. Boo hoo.

One of the benefits about what you call the "FUDD" mentality is it tends to reduce the number of snot-nosed punks with a sense of entitlement on the range.

I'm in Brooklin and am looking for a club as well, looks like one more on the list of places to check out. Would I get tarred and feathered for trying skeet or trap with a "tactical" shotgun? May not be ideal but it's what I have.

I shot their with a fellow cgner. You know what I noticed? I dont give a #### if people don't like my gun :) If I got a dirty look, I didn't see it because I was looking down range. I would join that club if they were open to new members including in the rifle section.
