Was out today with a few different ones - 44 Rem. Mag, 44 Automag, and the newish .429 Desert Eagle.

The standard .44 mag Desert Eagle with the muzzle brake is a lot of fun to shoot. Really accurate too.

I just picked up a .429 DE barrel for it. The .429DE is an interesting calibre. A .50AE necked down to .429. The ammo I was shooting was 210 gr at 1750 ft/sec. Definitely less recoil than the 50AE but still pretty stout.

I was able to land one of the new Automag remakes before the end. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, it has always been at the top of my grail gun list even pre-Sudden Impact. It still needs to break in a little but was functioning pretty well with the old Norma factory loads. Not so much with the Mexican made CDM ammo. Not because that ammo did not fire, but because the pistol is very sensitive to cartridge dimensions and would not always go into battery with the CDM. No doubt I'll need to start reloading for it. With that long fixed barrel, it was also a laser beam.

I missed out on picking up a .445 Supermag DW revolver. That would have rounded out my collection of non-Rem 44 mags. Maybe there are others I'm not aware of.

:p indeed. I had a shoulder holster when I owned a Deagle, never used it. Anyway that .429 looks fun. I had its predecessor a 440 Corbon a 10” barrel. Fun cartridge, sure got down range fast. Brutal on brass due to the violent extraction, got three reloads out of it, luckily had the dies to make them out of the 50 AE.

Nice. The 440 Corbon was something. I believe 440 was more powerful than the 50. The 429 has been detuned, landing right between the 44 mag and the 50. Wish they still made those 10" barrels.
 
That Automag looks great! I had never reloaded at all before I started for the one I used to have—I found it a pretty easy round to work with.

I may be hitting you up for some advice. And the one you had was running very smoothly if I recall. Not always the case with these ones, old and new.

Yeah, mine worked really well—I used H110 and had loads that went from 1100fps to 1350fps. It’s the one handgun I regret selling more than any others to be honest.

The H110 gives an awesome flash even in the daylight, too!

Your pics are always great, but that might take it.... Great shot.

I think the old Norma factory ammo is around the top end of your load. I'd like to develop a lighter load that reliably cycles.

And hey, maybe one day you'll be able to re-acquire...
