I have just been gifted from uncle thourgh my Grandfather a 26" hexed barrell 1899 in .303 Savage. Blueing 70-80% at least. It also came with 5 full boxes of .303 Savage imperial ammo. Its 5 digit seriel number dates it to 1909 pics to follow what i get some decent daylight. Wonder what its worth???

I have a 243 with the internal rotary magazine. That mag always intrigued me.

It is not as accurate as my bolt 243 but seems to have more class. I would be happy hunting with it. So far it has just pinked a few ground hogs.

Its not that i am unfamiliar with 99's i have shot few deer and grouse with my 99c .308 passed on to me from my grandmother. i am just unfamiliar with this 1909 1899 fully hexed barrell in .303 Savage. I will post pics soon. She is borderline excellent.

I've had 2 .308's and 1 .284 and I never could get any of them to shoot what most folks would call really good. They were certainly accurate enough to call minute of deer though. I like their looks and the way they feel. I cannot use the earlier models do to their lever safety. They blister my finger. Any of the later tang safety models were fine.

Uh...I don't like them. ;)

Obviously I jest, but for some reason I could never get on the .303 bandwagon (if there ever was one). Maybe I should get one and see if I change my mind.:dancingbanana:

I live in the Ottawa valley. lots of guys here have hex-barrel guns too. Use 'em to shoot deer with big horns.

Seriously, though, I just sold my 99 in .250 and was kicking myself before it got out the door. Still amm. What a eedjit!
I sold it to finance a new Hawkeye in .257 Roberts. Time will tell if that was wise. By the way, that .303 Savage ammo is getting pricey.

The rifle is probably worth around $500 without the ammo assuming good wood to match the good metal. The ammo is worth at least a couple hundred more. Very nice family heirloom to have. Enjoy it!

Thanks Mark, whats that title sposed to mean????:D

At least Blair had my back!!:dancingbanana:

I can't believe your gonna hunt the old girl. Now ya gotta watch everything you do with it, pulling it out of the safe, scraping it down branches, tsk, tsk....

Balls! :D
The rifle was built for hunting, and a few scratches only add to it's history.
My last 99 was one of the more modern late models. It gave me a feel for the rifle, but little else.
I have my grandfathers rifle, (not a 99) and you can be sure, that it hasn't seen it's last day afield either.
I just can't own a safe queen. I have to fire them, and to use them the way they were intended, in the field. I tried, and I ended up selling it.

% boxes of shells could last you a long time. But if anyone with a .303 sav. wants to reload for it I was on "Bashaw Firearms" web site and they advertise that they just got a big shipment of brass in. .303 sav. among it.

I have two 99s in .300 sav. and they are both fine hunting rifles.

My New Baby...

250-3000 Savage 99 Take Down HAND DELIVERED By Canso, I really like the Redfield vari scope and weaver steel mounts, the rifle is a Twenties or Thirties manufacture... will confirm.
