i use the otis bore snake and bore solvent on my 22 and 223. is it good enough to just use the bore solvent cause it says it is a lubricant also, or should i put gun oil after the patches come out clean?

you guys oil your bores?

never heard of doing that.... i just run patches through until they are clean and thats that.

and oil up the rest of the gun normally..

The .22's really don't much much cleaning of the bore. I occasionally run a bore snake through to remove powder debris but leave the bore alone. The lubricant from the bullets keep it from any rusting UNLESS you leave in an extremely humid environment. When I finally clean the bore with solvent, I indeed pass through a lightly oiled patch in either rimfire or centerfire guns. Just remember to pull a dry patch through before you start shooting.

For centerfire guns, when I clean the barrel I use solvent and then oil lightly unless the barrel is either stainless or chrome plated.

Well, that's what happens when you type and try to answer the phone. Mistakes!

More rational version below :(

ah, i guess im lucky that my guns barrels are stainless. I just clean and leave, shoot and clean.
I probably should get a bore brush for the 45 as there is some residue starting to build up in the rifling...
