Otis cleaning patch stuck

Tried to run a 3" Otis cleaning patch through a 5.56 XCR-L barrel and it's stuck. The box says the 3" is for .22 cal and up, but it's not moving.

I can still see the patch since it's only 1" or so in from the breach. It's stuck in there with the connecting tip, cable still attached. I obviously can't apply much pressure to try and push it out with the flexible cable.

I'm letting it soak with solvent tonight, but the big question tomorrow is whether I:

a) yank on it more in the hopes that the solvent has loosened it up enough; or

b) unscrew tha cable and use a solid cleaning rod to try to push it out backwards.

It's more inclined to try b), but am concerned that I'm in trouble if I unscrew the cable and can't back it out. I obviously can't reconnect the cable if it's been disconnected. Also, I don't want to damage my barrel by trying to push it out.

At the same time, I'm concerned that trying to pull the patch through with the cable will just jam it in more. This is what Otis recommends trying on their FAQ website though (http://www.otistec.com/Support/FAQ.asp).

Thoughts/opinions?

If I make it through this, I'll be using the 2" patches or trimming to size before trying again!

I use Otis patches and this exact thing happened to me. The large ones are for 7.62 the small ones for 5.56 I grabbed a 3" by mistake and got it stuck in a 5.56 barrel just like you did.

I pulled on it as hard as I could so it ripped the patch and the cable came out leaving the patch stuck in the barrel. I then poured oil down the muzzle and from the muzzle end pushed it out with a .22 cal cleaning rod (went and bought one at my local store).

Hope this works for you. I pay attention now when I grab a patch lol.

My plan B if it did not rip and the brass pull through attachement remained in the bore was to take the barrel off, spray some lighter fluid down the bore and hold it over the BBQ pit to torch the patch, then push the attachment out with the 22 rod. I was glad plan A worked.

If you can unscrew the cable, could you screw on a cleaning rod ?

I'd pour lube down there instead of more hoppes. Maybe some WD-40 or equiv' light penetrating oil.

Bare in mind, that if it jammed going one way, it'll probably jam worse if you try and make it go the other way.
