Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Called on friday to get two ATT's as I just bought two new handguns. The thing with the N.B firearms office is they never answer the phone, you would think no one worked there. Finally got talking to a woman on friday and she told me Ottawa isn't giving out ATT's right now and I asked how that was possible given people buying restricted's and she told me she would call me at a later date. Anyone know what this means because I have no idea and just spent over 2 grand on new guns I can't acquire.

I just bought a handgun on the 14th of April and have yet to receive it as the seller won't ship until he gets an ATT. Do the postal workers have ATT's? We hand the parcel to the postal person and it gets thrown around and handed from one to another until delivered and nobody has an ATT. Once we have it packaged and ready to take to the post office why is this not sufficient. At that point it is no longer a restricted firearm but a Canada Post parcel? What does this ATT accomplish other than adding to the beurocracy? Inconveniencing lawful owners and lawful transactions. Do criminals get ATT's? Once you have called to initiate the transfer and the buyer has confirmed is the transaction not complete? I just struggle with regulations for the sake of regulations. Dave

Postal workers do not require ATT's for the purpose of transporting/develiring restricted or prohibited firearms.

As for your seller, you should have known by having prior discussions with him that he would wait until the transfer would be authorized by the CFO's & until he gets his STATT to transport it to his post office. April 14th is over a month ago which, as unacceptable as it is, seems to be the norm in Ontario lately :(

As for what the ATT are good for. You know as well as I do that they don't serve any purpose (for public safety, in any shape or form) other than an annoyance to us law-abiding firearm enthusiasts.

That is very interesting. I was just talking to the New Brunswick CFO office on Friday as well because I as well just purchased a new handgun. What she told me is that Ottawa is making changes to the LTATT's. When I asked what the changes were she told me the new LTATT's would allow me to take my handgun to any certified range in the province without having to get a new ATT and she didn't say anything about needing an invitation. Because of these changes they were issuing a bunch of new LTATT's and they were really behind but they were doing a mass shipment of them on Monday (today) so fingers crossed.
What I don't understand is who made these "new rules" cause i thought the CFO office was responsible for making the rules about the ATT's and not Ottawa?

Maybe, just maybe, the complaints about arbitrary CFO polices have resulted in a standardized approach being developed.
It will be interesting to see.
Who knows?

I called the CFO in Fredricton about a month ago and requested Att forms she called me back and gave I her a Fax number I got the forms and faxed them back and I had my Att for the range in about two weeks.I did not have the address of the Range on the Permit only the expiry date. This must be the new permit, last time I had a Att was in 1995 was out of hand guns for a while

interesting. Maybe we won't need stupid invites anymore. It would be really nice it they just realized that a ATT is pointless and a waste of time and tax payer money. Get rid of ATT's all together!

I agree. ATT's are silly, redundant and simply should be included with a RPAL. The CFO's are currently heaping way too much sh*t and abuse on firearm owners under the guise of "public safety". What a crock.

Exactly. Anyone planning to endanger "public safety" with a handgun... Doesn't give a damn about ATT's. This crap just makes us responsible gun owners put up with more pointless grief.

The law says its to protect us, so be it. If i have to wait 4-6 weeks for att and it saves a life i will do it.

If your on the way to the range and you see a crime being commited, wave the ATT at the criminal and shout STOP ITS THE LAW.

Follow the law, be a good citizen.
