Out of Battery Ross Firing....

I was shocked to see that bolt come back firing a blank! Ball ammo, no thanks. I'll stick to my Enfields.

Yea, yea, i know. Put the bolt together properly and its as safe as a vault right!? I'll still stick with my Enfields, that bolt would hit the shooters face like Mike Tyson...might even tear an ear! :)

Your EAR is quite safe.

What you have to worry about is your right Eye and the Orbit (Eye Socket) bone around it, plus your Cheek Bone.

Somwhere, somehow, some IDIOT is going to try this for himself.

The RESULTS are PREDICTABLE with some certain degree of accuracy.

On the other hand, I have been shooting Ross Rifles for 50 years now and I still have both eyes.

But then, I do not do TOTALLY STUPID things with my rifles..... and then tell the world about it.

Ok stick with Enfields, more Ross available for me and other fellows to buy :p

Remember that if the Bolt of the 1910 is PINNED, it CAN NOT get out of adjustment.

If an UNPINNED Bolt is ASSEMBLED correctly, it will NOT get out of adjustment.

The Bolt REQUIRES HUMAN INTERVENTION to become mis-adjusted.

The problem is with the Operators, NOT with the Rifle; it is a mechanical object which does EXACTLY what it is told to do. If YOU tell it to fire when YOU did not put it together right in the first place, IT WILL FIRE.

If Ross Rifles are going to sell cheap, I'll take another half-a-dozen, thankyouverymuch. They were sure selling nicely at the Dauphin show earlier today.

Come on Smellie, the Ross rifles were only selling cheap today because either my brother and I are crazy (possibly) or we only collect guns but NEVER shoot them (highly unlikely)!!

As for Rosses being dangerous? Being an idiot is dangerous, shooting a Ross is quite safe!!

Right now I am busy hyperventilating, my heart is racing and skipping beats, my blood pressure is through the ROOF and it's going to be a stroke for me, or a heart attack, or apoplexy.... or possibly all three, one on top of the other. I am going to be in such terrible health that my Doctor (nice girl) won't even let me go to my own funeral! YES, it IS that bad!

GET RID of your Rosses: you can assemble them wrong and they still fire!

Get rid of your Lebels and your Berthiers.

And your Lee-Enfields and Lee-Metfords and Lee-Speeds.

Scrap all your Moisin-Nagants, too!

And your Dutch and Rumanian Mannlichers!

And your Mannlicher-Schoenauers!

They can ALL be loaded and fired WITH THE BOLT-HEADS COMPLETELY MISSING!!!!!!

LOW-number Springfields can FALL APART if the receiver is struck sideways with an iron bar!

HIGH-number Springfields have too much space between the Receiver and the Safety Lug!

SNIDER cartridges MIGHT be loaded accidentally with Bullseye or some other fast smokeless powder!

SVTs and SAFNs and SLEMs can self-destruct if the Gas is set wrong!

G/K-43s can open too fast and jam solid if the Powder is TOO SLOW!

SKSs and PTRSs can CRACK BOLTS!

A Moisin-Nagant 'way out of spec can do likewise!

GARANDS can wreck themselves if the powder is too slow and the bullet too heavy!

BAN THEM ALL!!! IT'S THE ONLY SOLUTION!!! IF IT SAVES JUST ONE CHILD!!!!!

Or else LEARN about them and use them safely and have one helluvva lotta fun.

*******************************************

Went to the Dauphin Gun Show on Sunday, long with Twosteam and Buffdog.

I came back with 80 pounds of junk and an empty wallet. Buffdog got ALL the .30-'03 ammo that was there (all 3 rounds) and some excellent books. I got to met KJOHN (really great fellow) but I didn't know he was going to be there, so his MAGAZINE is still here! We met Steve (Tinman204) and his-brother-who-is-a-nice-guy-but-whose-name-escapes-me; they were trying out the overload springs on the truck, so there will be some NEAT posts here in the future. Also met and talked with dear friends Cornelius and Carol Ens from Manitou Gun Works in Manitou, Manitoba. Poor Cornelius is going to have to look for RUST on that Holland & Holland shotgun now..... I might have drooled on it a bit too much.

And Lauren didn't show up so, strictly to keep all the NEATNESS on the distaff side of our households, Janice bought BOTH the ZULU shotguns (chopped Mle 1866 Tabatieres) which were at the show. There are now THREE in this house..... and I am the only guy here with a .690" ball mould and 500 pounds of wheelweights, so you can guess what I will be doing for the next several years.

I think I shall go now and throw a fit and scream at Janice about the INHERENT UNSAFENESS of her new toys. They have only been around now for 147 years, but you never know what MIGHT happen. Of course, then, it might NOT happen: Janice is a Smart Girl and doesn't do DUMB things with her treasured Antiques.

So as a public service (As I am so very civic minded) I will (At my own expense) allow you to dispose of those dangerous toys , by accepting them here at my place. I will pay the postage (provided you give me a tax number) and (at no small cost to myself) dispose of said dangerous toys or toy.

But You might! Think of the heartbreak ( your family may experience) and send those dangerous pieces of metal and wood to me! I will (at no small inconvenience to myself) dispose of any and all ammunition for you as well! ( I know - big of me isn't it?)

I am a civic minded girl ( as witnessed by my offer above) and so I believe it is not out of line for me to suggest that you send your money as well. (You could get yourself into trouble by buying more toys) Think of your spouse- protect your family today and send those dangerous toys to me. (and remember, divest your self of the means of succumbing to temptation.)

Please remember to appease my spouse by sending him some lead weights.

You see what I have to put up with?

Do you know how long it takes to cast SEVEN THOUSAND balls with a single-cavity mould?

Please don't send any more lead; it's gonna set me back almost $400 just in Primers to get rid of what we already have!

Anything else is between YOU and JAN.

As you can see, being civic minded is costly.(not to mention inconvenient) So I am offering to accept money to offset the cost of primers.

You can contribute to the removal of these dangerous tools from (your immediate) environment.
Think of the warm feeling you will experience as a result of said actions.Think of the added safety you can insure your family!

I am also willing to relieve you of the guilt and social lack of status and the added social suspicion you would otherwise experience as a result of your ownership of...

1) Antique Motorcycles.
2) Antique Cars.
3). most any and all machine tools.

(Silver and gold will also be accepted)
Remember- Scientists have discovered that nano-particles (Minute traces) of gold can contribute to accelerated aging and increase your danger of succumbing to cancer.

REMEMBER Antique gold watches are ticking time bombs!

Very piously and public-spiritedly yours,
janice

Nanoparticles Found in Everyday Items Can Inhibit Fat Storage: Gold Nanoparticles Accelerate Aging

Nanoparticles Found in Everyday Items Can Inhibit Fat Storage: Gold Nanoparticles Accelerate Aging

Apr. 18, 2013 — New research reveals that pure gold nanoparticles found in everyday items such as personal care products, as well as drug delivery, MRI contrast agents and solar cells can inhibit adipose (fat) storage and lead to accelerated aging and wrinkling, slowed wound healing and the onset of diabetes. The researchers, led by Tatsiana Mironava, a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Molecular Engineering at Stony Brook University, detail their research in the journal Nanotoxicology.

Together with co-author Dr. Marcia Simon, Professor of Oral Biology and Pathology at Stony Brook University, and Director of the University's Living Skin Bank, a world-class facility that has developed skin tissue for burn victims and various wound therapies, the researchers tested the impact of nanoparticles in vitro on multiple types of cells, including adipose (fat) tissue, to determine whether their basic functions were disrupted when exposed to very low doses of nanoparticles. Subcutaneous adipose tissue acts as insulation from heat and cold, functions as a reserve of nutrients, and is found around internal organs for padding, in yellow bone marrow and in breast tissue.

They discovered that the human adipose-derived stromal cells -- a type of adult stem cells -- were penetrated by the gold nanoparticles almost instantly and that the particles accumulated in the cells with no obvious pathway for elimination. The presence of the particles disrupted multiple cell functions, such as movement; replication (cell division); and collagen contraction; processes that are essential in wound healing.

According to the researchers, the most disturbing finding was that the particles interfered with genetic regulation, RNA expression and inhibited the ability to differentiate into mature adipocytes or fat cells. "Reductions caused by gold nanoparticles can result in systemic changes to the body," said Professor Mironava. "Since they have been considered inert and essentially harmless, it was assumed that pure gold nanoparticles would also be safe. Evidence to the contrary is beginning to emerge."

This study is also the first to demonstrate the impact of nanoparticles on adult stem cells, which are the cells our body uses for continual organ regeneration. It revealed that adipose derived stromal cells involved in regeneration of multiple organs, including skin, nerve, bone, and hair, ignored appropriate cues and failed to differentiate when exposed to nanoparticles. The presence of gold nanoparticles also reduced adiponectin, a protein involved in regulating glucose levels and fatty acid breakdown, which helps to regulate metabolism.

"We have learned that careful consideration and the choice of size, concentration and the duration of the clinical application of gold nanoparticles is warranted," said Professor Mironava. "The good news is that when the nanoparticles were removed, normal functions were eventually restored."

"Nanotechnology is continuing to be at the cutting edge of science research and has opened new doors in energy and materials science," said co-author, Miriam Rafailovich, PhD, Chief Scientist of the Advanced Energy Center and Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stony Brook. "Progress comes with social responsibility and ensuring that new technologies are environmentally sustainable. These results are very relevant to achieving these goals."

The research, funded by the National Science Foundation Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers (MRSEC) and Polymer Programs, was a collaboration of Stony Brook University and New York State Stem Cell Science (NYSTEM). The paper was also co-authored by Michael Hadjiargyrou, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Life Sciences at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and former Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook.

Oh my goodness gracious me,
How much nicer can I be?
I think it is plain for all to see
There is no-one much more nice than me!

This one of the best threads since Babylonian times!!!!

(no, Smellie and Janice, i'm not giving away my new(ish) Snider)

(yet)

:D

I'm headed for certain death!!! I just realized that I own the trifecta of danger.

I see my own demise very clearly!!

I will pull the trigger on my Ross, the bolt will blow black hitting me in the right eye and cheek! Blinded by the explosion and bleeding, reaching around for a paper towel on the shop bench my I will accidently touch the trigger on my snider blowing open the breech!!

The explosion will blow me back falling on my Sks! From the impact the bolt will clos causing a slam fire and will rupture the bolt from a crack in it and hit me in the head and kill me!!

Ohhh the horror!!!

Now back to reality! The whole Ross bolt thing is getting old. That video is like me taking the roll bar off my tractor and then purposely rolling it to show how dangerous it is.

Or cutting my seatbelt with a knife and then running into a brick walk.

Like I said in an earlier post, being an idiot is dangerous!!

agreed, people are afraid of what they dont know, i wish i would have made it to the dauphin show, or even known about it, would been cool to meet a few of the go to guys on this site, on another note i went to cabelas to pick up my reloading stuff:) picked up the lee 50th anniversary kit, bought some 303 british dies, a length guage and a book:) then i found a 25 dollar gift card in my wallet, now i need to be taught how to do this :)
