This is probably a simple question, but if I were to buy some property in Quebec, how difficult is it for me to obtain a hunting license and how do the restrictions change being that I am from Ontario.
Been looking at some property near Bouchette, Quebec and want to know how much of a pain this is going to be compared to purchasing property in Ontario.
Thanks

If you become a "resident" you'll likely have to pass Quebecs hunter education course. If you dont become a resident, you can likely just buy a non-resident license. Not sure on the specifics, but thats how it works for people cmoing to Ontario.

As in most provinces, you actually have to live in the province to be deemed a resident. In your case, it will mean having a mailing address, showing current utility bills and a Quebec drivers license. Just owning property does not give you resident status.

Similar story here. Resident, Non Resident Canadian and Non Resident Foreigner type licenses available.

hms11, If you do purchase the property in Quebec there is a realistic chance you will not only own property in another province, but another country!! something you may want to keep in mind.

I have certainly been keeping that in mind! It is one of the many reasons I have been hesitant. There is lots of nice, affordable, remote waterfront property in western Quebec but the province/country scares me!

You're sitting too close to a dryer vent if you seriously think that will ever happen.

BUM: the folks in Quebec have been causing issues and rattling sabres since the Plains of Abraham battle to the present. Realistic common sense would dictate separation is not financially feasible. But common sense plays absolutely no part in politics, especially in the separation debate issue, or the topic never would have arose in the first place. Never say never my friend as history "will" prove you wrong. Hopefully cooler heads with the ordinary folks in Quebec will win the day.
All I was doing was suggesting to the OP that things could get interesting for out of country/province property owners. Don't quite know how your your wife's cloths dryer has merit in the discussion.

Always frustrated me that we could not hunt anywhere in our country we wanted to without a large price tag involved. Quebec is not going anywhere for a while if ever. My understanding of Quebec politics is not generated by misleading sensationalistic journalism but by growing up on the Rive Sud de Montreal as an anglo. Buy the property if you want it. Quebec rivals BC in diversity of habitat and outright beauty in my opinion.

Just take solice in living in the absolute best of of it, country wide. :) Well, Yukon's no slouch.

When I go to Africa, I've been asked by professional hunters several times if I know much about hunting in British Columbia. It seems they hear more about this part of Canada from their clients and at the hunting shows than all the rest combined.

Kind of what I figured.
Thanks guys, I guess I'll cross this bridge if/when I get the property.

You Really need to google the hunting regs from the other province and do some actual research. Odds are the only way you'll be able to hunt is as a non resident and hire a guide. Likely cheaper to go hunt Africa.

Far as I've looked AB is the only place that seems willing to bend over and let most anyone hunt.
