First time out-of-province handgun purchase for me from a firearms vendor in Alberta. Can someone please explain to me how the transfer process works? All my previous purchases from vendors have been in-province (Ontario) and they took care of all the paperwork as I recall. Is there anything I need to do?

Thanks!

Nothing you need to do if you bought it through a store. However, you may want to call and make sure the Candian Firearms Program have all the info they need; range membership, etc.

Handgun was purchased in September before the transfer freeze. I wasn't quite sure whether the retailer in Alberta would handle the complete transfer process and which CFO is involved? My last transfer from the Ontario CFO took 5 months so it looks like I'll be waiting at least a few more months before this latest purchase is approved.

I have one going to Ont , it is my own, so P-P, aug 2 still waiting , the Alb. dealer will cover everything, do you have a reference number from the dealer? he should have sent it to you .
If you have it , you can try phoning in and checking.
I got in today, about 20 min on hold. They say just wait , but it is in the system OK

No different. They will submit your data, the various government bureaucrats will process it, eventually. - dan

If you are in Ontario and purchased from dealer in Alberta there is nothing you need to do but wait. Your home address (Ontario) CFO will be handling your transfer as it comes up and will send an email to you and the selling dealer when it is approved. I had an Aug 9 purchase from Alberta that was approved on Jan 14. I also have a Sept 8 purchase and was told at least another 6-8 weeks by the CFO office yesterday.

Look up your transfer number range or date of transfer initiation on this sheet and will give you some idea of when to expect your approval. So far the sheet has been hitting within a day of estimates
