How are you travelling, where are you going to hunt? How long are you here for?

It is very easy to fly West Jet with guns and AMMO Make sure your gun is locked up and the ammo is stored seperate. depending on where you plan to hunt will regulate what is required some places require a guide others simply a host. And some neither. Good luck

West of Reddeer, 2 - 4 guns by freight, 2 weeks hunt with horses:rolleyes:

camping gears will be settle there just fly with my hunting gears.

WIN in process, tags depends on the final scout report of the area from the host:D ...

You will be amazed at the common sense you encounter in the west.
travelled with firearms last summer to Reddeer, via Edmonton on Westjet. No issues.

Go to Westjets website and follow the links to what you can and cannot fly with. Good info on what to do and how large the cases can be.

Have relatives out there and toying with the idea of doing the same thing in a couple of years. Hunting possibilities not available here.

Dont forget to post pics when you get back!!!!

Fly out here by West Jet and you will have no problems bringing your firearms and ammo. I fly them all the time with my toys.

Be prepared for ANY type of weather, you may be hunting in a tee shirt or wearing a parka! Having a good pair or two of boots will help as you may cover a lot of territory in a day.
2 weeks hunt with horses:rolleyes:
Keep an open mind on horesback hunting. They can get you into some incredible hunting areas that are inaccessible or too remote for most people, they are the ultimate 4x4.

West Jet has always treated me well flying from Ontario to Saskatchewan. Report early with the guns unloaded, trigger locked and locked in a hard case. Pack the ammo separately. Have your PAL/POL and the registrations in hand. The nice people have questions they must ask, and a form for you to sign. Don't overreact to them. The agent will have you carry the bags to a special chute. Another nice lady swiped the gun case for explosives residue with their wand and swatch sniffer. Nothing found - curiously.

If you are going to be on horseback, your guns are the least of the worries. Your 'nads and arse are going to be in pain if you don't get more than a lap around the kiddy paddock. Get a few long days in the saddle before ruining yourself for the joy of the hunt.

You will also need a passport  to enter "The True North Strong and Free" form that eastern wasteland.:p :p :p :p

I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to hunt west of Red Deer. the only things thee are whitetails, muleys, bear, elk , moose and wolves and maybe a few hundred cougars. Other than that not much:rolleyes:

What do you need all those guns for? this isn't downtown Taranta eh?:p :p

If you've never hunted Alberta before, you are in for an adventure. And if you have then you are in for an adventure and you know it.:D

What time of year are you planning to be here? At least if you are hunting with horses you won't need cover scent till the flight home.:D

Actually the host is located in the east end of 221 and I'm not sure if we go go over to 322 (you know, Red Deer is in eastern 220)

4 guns? alway carry a backpack .22LR, a multipurposes 12g shotgun, then a RIFLE or the target game and a backup rifle:) ... if I can, I will carry the same setup to Africa too;) ;) :D

October will be the planned hunt.
Cover scent? Yeah, the cow moose in heat cover scent made the other customers in Tim Houton felt much better than my 2 weeks in the woods scent:D

if you come to Alberta with guns ......you won't need a passport.:D We'll just figure you're one of us;) ;)

October is an excellent time to hunt that area. Good luck with the hunt. , How long are you planning to be here?

BTW I think SA law limits you to two guns, different calibers.

Thankz Redfrog! exactly the info I need!

I will spend 2 weeks over there and...can I bring 4 guns carry 1 or 2 and leave the rest in the base camp?

Just received the 2005 hunting reg of Alberta in mail:rolleyes: take some time to go thought the whole book...

Bring all the guns you want. :D We are soooo civilized here.;)

I'd at least tie the tent flap if you plan to leave guns in camp.

Seriously, I have never had a problem leaving anything in my camps. With firearms out of your immediate supervision, of course you should have them stored properly as in, out of sight, in a case , locked in a vehicle.
anything I can help with, just let me know.

If this is your first trip, you may want to leave a picture of yourself with your family....so they remember what you look like. Some people come to Alberta and just never seem to leave.:D
