Ok heres the scenario,
I haven't lived in Ontario since `92, I'm going back for a visit in Sept. My freind wants to know if I can shoot groundhogs on her brothers property using a borrowed .22 from the brothers neighbour.
Said property is between Belleville and Trenton.

Do you need a small game licence? Or can I just go in and clean up the pests?
I have my Alberta WIN card and my PAL.

What say you armchair lawyers? ;)
 
"...need a small game licence?..." Yep. A non-resident small game licence costs $96.75 plus $9 for the Temporary Hunting Outdoors Card tax.
Don't even think about shooting ground hogs without the licence and card. Get stopped by a CO and you'll be arrested, lose the rifle, possibly your vehicle, your PAL will likely be revoked and you'll get a huge fine. Most of the other small game seasons open in mid-September. The bush will be alive with CO's. Private property doesn't mean you don't need a licence.
Mind you, if the weather turns cold and wet in September, the ground hogs will go to bed for the winter. They go into hibernation in late September anyay.
Your Alberta WIN card means nothing here.
Borrowing the .22 is no big deal. Make sure you have the registration certificate too.

but isnt a small game license invalid form july to sep in ontario?
yea, i know ontario sucks...

it's on private property, but up some targets. LOL!
 
I was reading those regs....thats for hunting game that requires a specific licence.
These are just groundhogs I'm asking about. When I lived in Ottawa you grabbed your .22 and a few boxes of shells and made an afternoon of it.

Ok, well if a licence is needed...hes outta luck. Glad I live out in the province of freedom.

Oh...on a side note...just got my deer tags. I won't be greedy, just going for 3. :p
My "general whitetail" which allows me either a doe or a buck off that tag. And a "supplemental antlerless" which allows me 2 more antlerless whitetail.
And the season runs from Nov 1 to Dec 20 inclusive.
Never had THAT in Ontario either.
