Looking at the diamondback tactical for precision rimfire matches.
Debating between the 4-16x44 or the 6-24x50
Local range maxes out at 100 yard shots

25-50-75-100 yard target placement

Which scope would you get?

Any advantage to the lower magnification in terms of glass quality or image?

I would say, theoretically, that a higher magnification would make any flaws/defects in the glass more noticeable.
Either would work, most guys stick to the 10-15x zoom.

Go with a 6-24 or 5-25. Have the high magnification for zeroing and groups and no need for a spotting scope. Lower the mag to around 14x for the matches.

The old saying... Have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. Buy once, cry once. The Strike Eagle 5-25 is a nice scope. Parallax down to15 yards and illuminated reticle.

I can’t see myself trying to hit a steel target at 100 yards with 24x zoom in a match.

Started smallbore metallic silhouette 25+ years ago with a 12X scope. It's all offhand shooting and was difficult at first.

Looks like you are allowed bipods / slings / or a rest off a tires/ladders etc. so personally would go larger & you can dial it back until you get more comfortable with the magnification over the course of fire.

Currently using 16x, 6.5-20X, and 24X at 40m, 60m, 77m, & 100m. Most competitors are using 24X, a few may still be using their 36X .
