Over-size/tactical bolt knobs, what do you want?

knurling ; a series of small ridges or grooves on the surface or edge of a metal object to aid in gripping.

i tried one that was knurled and didn't like the way my gloves stuck to it. the smooth one i worked felt easier to operate.

We used to make a knurled version of ours and it really didn't sell very well. Anything that resembles the lines of the Badger seems to do well. I really like the look and feel of that design.

World class trigger pullers like the USMC and Big Army Snipers seem to get by with factory bolt handles...but 500lb molle clad civvie target shooters always seem to know better...:nest:

As an ex-army guy... I think I can easily explain why military snipers (and police one also) don't use rifles with over-size bolt knobs... it is because they are using army/government issued kit...

And don't forget that in many cases, the 'purchase' dept. will buy from the lowest bidder :yingyang: (and a over-size knob would add cost to the item, so they drop it)

Just my 2 cents,
Mike.

You can only make a knob so many ways.

Mine looks a lot like the badger but more rounded on the fat end.

AAHAHAHA ... shoot I needed a good laugh this am ... thanks Bryce ... :D

Yeah for some reason when I read your other post I read it as you saying knurling would make the bolt handle harder to hold onto, ie: too slippery.

I see what you mean now about the gloves and even skin sticking. Trying to knurl a radius would be near impossible with out some sort of fancy knurling tool.

It's about time I threw a picture up here. All I have is my cell phone at work, so this is the best you'll get. It's just spray painted, I'm not firing all the anodizing stuff up for one or two little knobs.

After painting I noticed the knobs are getting dinged up when the lathe parts them off. I'll have to fix that. Maybe run them on the older lathe with the automatic parts catcher.

Agreed. It's like saying kifaru makes s**tty backpacks, because so many soldiers are still rocking the 82 pattern...

Personally, I like bolt handles without the knurling, kind of like what TacOps makes, or what is on a trg (and yes, I've actually used them). It's a trade-off: you might get a better grip on a knurled one, but you may also leave part of your hand stuck to it when you rack it hard in a hurry... ;)
