so Ive decided to keep my M70 but dress it up some, its a ranger model, with very plain wood stock.

some time ago I notice that the barrel is leaning on the front of the stock. I gently sanded the chanel, waterprove it with linsid oil, but no luck. after a while the barrel was still leanign to that one side(left one)

so after two weeks of waiting I finaly got my overmolded stock, from Houge, nice little thing if I can say so. really attractive, but three things I noticed when I just tried it on;

-the hole for the trap door screw is too deep(no problem, can be filled with some kind of washer)
-the channel is too wide for a sport barrel that I currently have installed
-the bloody barrel is leaning (!) on the left side of the channel!!!!

is there no salvation for me with this rifle:mad:, its really pissing me off

Im ready to throw this thing on the EE forum but after spending $200(the costums slapped another $25 charge on top of $175 I already paid) I dont think anyone will be willing to cough up enough to cover my loss, besid who would want to buy a crooked rifle?

I need ideas on how to adress this issue; rebarrel? find a gunsmith around Mississauga area and spend some more $? try to sand the stock myself?

here is a pic

Bed the action with the barrel in the center of the stock. A new barrel will set you back about 500-600 installed. Don't worry about the gap around the barrel, it's called free floating.

Pretty common problem for the Hogue off the shelf stocks, at least in my limited experience. Might be a better idea to try to exchange it for a straighter stock if you can do that without too much hassle.

Bedding is the best way to fix it, but you'll probably need a way to center the barrel in the stock while the bedding material hardens or you'll end up with the barrel permanently off-center.

:Dlooks like its a common complaint with Hogue, I finally found a little flyer expalining that a barrel may be of to one side or even touching a side, the flyer explains in detail how to shim the recoil lug, using tape, or bed the barrel

im going to try shimming firts(since SWMBO has discovered how much this whole thing cost me so far) and in few months Im bedding the barrel

thanks guys, for all your ideas, Ill be looking up for help on bedding comes summer time:cool:
