overwhelmed newbie here!

Thanks for the responses everyone. I am on the same page as another poster here because I know I will get bored of a .22 so fast that I think it will be a waste of money for me. I cannot find a website that has the cost of 9mm vs .22 cal ammuniton though, does anyone know one? One reason I went 9mm over .45 was because of the ammunition costs. Of course the other reason is I have heard 9mm is much easier to control for a new shooter.

Apparently I don't need to worry too much yet anyhow because as I read through other threads it seems I am still at least two-three months from getting my rpal. Someone will have to explain to me the point of sending things back and forth by snail mail with the slowest acting company on the planet...the government!

I can tell you will be bored with a .22 in about 10 seconds whether or not it's good for training and also cheap. I say shoot what you're going to shoot. A 9mm is a good compromise and will set you back around $300 per thousand rounds. That's a fair bit of ammo and even if you go every 2 weeks to the range and blast away 200 rounds each time it isn't cost prohibitive unless you're on the pipe too, lol. I've got a 226 that I love but it is a bit chunky. I just got a Springfield 1911 in 9mm that I haven't shot yet but it feels great! Please consider that as well. I think it will be my main 9mm. I had a Glock in 9mm for a little while and I found it so light that my hand felt a little bit like it was being slapped. Not bad just enough to realize I prefered the heavier pistol.

I will definately do some research on the springfield 1911 in 9mm. Thanks for posting those pics, as a newbie a visual is always helpful. Let me know how it shoots in comparison to your glock once you break it in!

I recently got to try out a brand new Glock 21C in 45 calibre, but it has compensating slots cut into the end of the barrel and slide to keep the muzzle down when shooting. I was astounded by how light the recoil felt on it compared to the standard 45. It felt like I was shooting a 9mm--- no exaggeration.
I'm a fan of this gun and would say check it out if you like Glocks in 45.
