What do you have and how does it shoot?

I currently own a Rem 700 VSSF II. Its accurate and I like it. I've owned sporter rifles in the past and miss their portability when dogging coyotes. Tikka 595 (never should have sold) and Ruger 77 (accurate but kicked like crazy). I want to sell or trade my HB varminter but don't want to lose it untill I have a rifle or two to target with my funds or trade.
Definitely gonna look for a 595 again but what else is out there that I've overlooked maybe. The 700 BDL is discontinued in .22-250. The 700 VTR is kind of odd but does it shoot?
 
I don`t currently own a 22-250 but will get one down the road. The two i had were both Rem. 788`s. I hope you aren`t serious about the ruger kicking, some 22-250`s will jump when fired but they sure don`t kick. Can`t help with the 700 VTR, but i sure like the Tikka rifles. I sold my last varmint rifle to my son and went with the T3 light as it is much easier to carry when coyote hunting. Kind of depends on how far you walk and how old you are, as i get older weight is a factor. A good buddy told me one day that the "GOLDEN YEARS' really suck as knees and your back go to hell from years of working your butt off. Well that`s my rant for the day, it really boils down to what fits you and you like the rifle. That`s why there`s so many choices.
 
I had a Winchester model 70 in .22-250 and it would shoot 1/4" inch at 100 yards. It was just under 8 lbs with scope and sling. I made the mjstake of using it at a pin shoot, and got it too hot. It would only shoot 1 1/2" groups after that, so I sold it.
 
I currently own a 700 BDL in 22/250. Originally was a 308, but had it rebarreled with a stainless 223 1:12" bbl re-chambered. Stock is a walnut Classic style. It's a very good shooter, perfect for a walking around varminter/deer rifle.

My other similar rifle should be arriving from the gunsmith in the next couple weeks. It's another 700 BDL in 223AI, with Shilen stainless 1:9" bbl in a 22" Mountain rifle contour in a TI take off stock. Will be topped with a VXII 3x9 in Talley LWs.

i just use a simple and cheap stevens model 200 in a boyds stock with a cheap bushnell trophy scope. it can clover leave 4 rounds if im having a good day at 100 meters. it doesent weigh much either.
 
That ruger was the wierdest gun I owned. It wouldn't shoot for me till I changed the trigger. Then it would do 3/4" with winchester white box ammo. It had a good heft and feel and I loved the looks of it. Shooting it, for me and a couple buds, the rifle would have a sharp kick straight back. It didn't hurt so much as it would always make you worry about getting the 'eyebrow'. It wasn't just me though. I had other buddies say the same thing. I started to develop a bit of a flinch anticipating that 'kick' or sharp rearward recoil. Thats the only rifle that that I ever experienced that with. .223 through .30-06. Maybe just the way it fit me was the problem I don't know. Sold it to a guy that loves it.
Thinking i might sell this rifle and look for a Tikka again or maybe have a sight sponsor maybe rebarrel this with a 1-10" 22" barrel and bed it in a Boyds stock or something like that. I'm a bowhunter first and coyote and varmint snipe for kicks.

If you're thinking a Boyds laminated, you'll find it quite heavy and will be back to square one with the weight issue.

Huh, no kidding. I guess I'd have to look at stocks when the time comes. I had no idea they were heavy. Maybe look for a BDL take off. Those BDL stocks fit good for me.
 
I put this Classic one on mine. Nothing special, but a little nicer than the BDL.
