Owning a Handgun..... pain in @ss or not

When C-68 made owning a rifle just as difficult as owning a handgun, the strategy actually backfired on the gun grabbers. People who jumped through all the hoops to take part in hunting decided to go for a handgun certification as well since there was zero difference in the training except for the firearm involved. Handgun ownership spiked immediately after the passing of the legislation and more and more citizens are still going for it.

Personally, I have not found it to be a hassle to own a handgun (I own several). I have never had any issues with the CFO. Transferring has always been smooth and fast. Getting a STATT is a simple phone call. Now maybe I've just been lucky, but it doesn't seem so. Other than not being able to shoot restricteds anywhere other than a range, am I missing something?

I was wondering what its like to own a handgun.... if you belong to a club where you can use it, is there a lot to it? Filling out the paper work getting the ATT, is all the stuff surrounding the ownership is it more of a pain or really no different then just owning a rifle.

Just a question?

Since you're in Ontario, getting a full G driver's license from scratch is worse and more excruciatingly slow than going through the RPAL application/Club Membership/Club ATT process...and yet thousands are dumb enough to go through driver licensing without complaint. Be happy that our current federal government is at least making an effort to make our lives easier.

It doesn't seem like it's too much of a hassle to get your RPAL. It just seems like your then told where you can shoot and how you can drive to your designated range. Non restricted firearms can't be open carried in downtown or loaded in your vehicle on your way to your range or hunting area. They can be shot in the bush and used for predator protection and hunting. I am not a vigilante looking for justice. Why do I have to be told when and where I can shoot. Wouldn't the paperwork and registration be enough to keep record of these "30rnd magazine clip concealed wild west" restricted firearms? So I can go shoot these amazing guns where I want (safely of course). Or be able to have it on my side while hiking around the bush or hunting. For then, and probably not only then... will I get my RPAL. My .5€

Owned a bunch of handguns and 12.6 prohibs in Canada until a couple of years ago.
Used to be heavy into competitions both in Canada and stateside until sight problems put the kibosh to that.
Poking holes in paper targets got tired quick after I quit shooting competitions.

Held on to the handguns in the hope that the CPC would do something with the repressive firearms act and classifications but soon realized that wasn't going to happen.
As a US/CDN dual citizen I had other options so I exported 4 revolvers and a Springfield 1911 to my home in New Hampshire where I can use them for plinking and hunting and sold the rest of my handguns here in Canada.

Strictly a non-restricted firearms owner now - a fudd for want of a better term.
If I have to get permission from an anti-gun bureaucrat to take my firearm outside the 4 walls of my home I don't really own that firearm and that's what restricted firearms are all about.

If you enjoy shooting your handguns at a CFO approved range arrived at by the most direct route and can resist the temptation to shoot them at a ** GASP**gravel pit **GASP** then by all means enjoy.
I'm not knocking anyone else for owning handguns in Canada I just didn't see the point in ME tying up thousands of dollars in property that is so strictly regulated.
Everybody to their own.

With 2.5 dozens in my herd, i have choice to organize my range days, today 5 handguns and 2 AR's...
After another CPC majority come October, i will double my herd by the end of 2016... JP.

PS: NR are like screwdrivers in a tool box... I have no idea exactly how many i own...

I know a retired chap that quit hunting for health reasons and can't wait to get to the range to blast away with his handguns and shoot the shyt with his handgun shooting friends in the clubhouse after the shoot.
He is missing absolutely nothing.

I got 7 Handguns I don't think its a big deal at all. I don't care for my AR15. I live Downtown and I find nice small concealable convenience when I go down to a range then a giant ass box to sneak in and out.

Both of my handguns were purchased on a Saturday, firearms were transferred and my ATT's were in hand by noon the next Monday via the SK CFO.

I've had a relatively easy time with the CFO compared to others.

Have you got your registration certificate yet ?

I have all the papers for mine...except that.

Safe queens till they get around to it...

Yep so far easy.
but also a pita ...

Oh well , it will get here some day
