Whilst perusing the tool section at the Home Depot here in Dartmouth, I espied a little Oxy-Acetylene rig for sale for about $500 CDN, does anyone have any experience with this rig? It looks like it might be useful around the house if you need to do any brazing, maybe it might be good enough for light welding tasks, anybody have any experience with this particular rig? Thanks, good evening everyone. . .

Haven't seen those tony, but if you are looking for a cheap, light duty Oxy/Acetylene kit I did pick up one of the chinese cutting/welding Victor knock offs today for under $100. I can let you know if they are worth it next week if you like.

SPI - I would be interested in a review of the cheap torch. I was looking at the Harris knock off the other day and it was better built than I was expecting, all the joints were silver brazed. I'm guessing that the valves will leak eventually but for the amount I will use it, it won't matter.
Post your review please.

You might want to check with your local supplier of acetylene in regards to refilling the small tanks before you buy it. IIRC you didn't need a contract to have them refilled but that might of changed.

Can't answer your specific question fat tony, but I've seen cutting/brazing sets, (torch, regs, 15' hoses) at Princess Auto for less than 200 bucks. Also, I'd definately take Striker's advice before I paid $$ for bottles.

Praxair in TO area seemed to care not of who I was when we discussed refills of small bottles with ANY gas they supplied. I told them I was a hobbyist and they were equally interested in my business. :) Expensive too... :(

Go to a used tools place, you'll find a real thing for that much money.

You can usually get a set of 2 stage regulators, along with a good torch, pretty cheap. There is a world of difference between the typical single stage regulators and 2 stage regulators, especially if you are doing fine work. The pressures from a 2 stage are rock steady.

There are usually a place around that rebuild regulators for everyone, find out where the welding supply shops send theirs since they usually don't do it inhouse.

Also check out Princess Auto, usually chinese, but they stand behind their stuff.

Enlighten me! What is 2 stage regulator? I might sound like an experienced welder but I am not nearly one. All I have is a university course of machine maintenance, some 10 hours...
