P-14 actions

Basically any belted magnum, especially the short belted magnums like the 7mm Remington, .300 Winchester, .338 Winchester, .264 Winchester, 7mm Weatherby and .257 Weatherby.

The longer belted magnums are also very possible, including the .375 H&H, .300 Weatherby, etc.

I'm sure that the .300 WSM and .300 Ultramag are also quite viable.

I'm considering a P-14 as well. I signed up for the Gunsmithing Course at SAIT and we get to build a rifle in that course. I've ordered a .30 calibre barrel and was thinking of making a 308 Norma Magnum. Before I settle on the P-14, I was wondering if anybody might know whether or not you can upgrade the trigger?

303 Epps Improved would be the way to go on the P-14 if that is the action you want to play with but if you have ordered up a 30 cal barrel already then go with a .300 win mag. Depends on what reamers are going to be at your disposal?

For 300 Win Mag you are better of using Model 1917 action
with P14 bolt, mag, feed rails and mag opening are all wrong on P14.
Even 303Epps conversion takes a bit of work to get to feed.

Farmnut has got a solid point, but still the P-14 is very widely used for magnum rifles.

And yes, there are after-market triggers. I personally prefer the Dayton-Traister, but others like the Timney. Actually, a good gunsmith with a set screw can make an excellent and crisp single stage trigger out of the original military trigger.

This link is worth checking out:

Yer funny Dennis........:dancingbanana: seriously though, 300 Win. one of the magnums perhaps??

Well you did say "easiest". :D

If it is NOT an Eddystone action then I would say you can make just about any magnum you want. The 300 Win Mag is an excellent 30 cal mag. If it is an Eddystone I wouldn't do anything with it.

or save the barrel and make it a 300 win mag with a .311 bore. Reload accordingly.

There is also something to be said for .303 britsh sporter. Loaded to it's potential a 180 grain bullet gives you at least a .308 and loaded with a 215 woodliegh and the original peep your all ready for island bears.

Ever tried .308 Norma Magnum? I think she's a great calibre.

Might be the way to go if you have a nice M17 Barrel and a .30-06 internal mag. Screw on the modified M17 barrel onto the P14 and you're off to the races. Heck you can even thread on a heavy .30 cal barrel and make her into a target rifle in this calibre.

You can neck down .338 win mag brass.
