It's a stock from an Indian deactivated drill rifle. A large quantity of these rifles were imported into North America some years back.
The notches in front of the action area were where a pin was inserted through the barrel and welded in.
These can make acceptable stocks for restoring a bubba'd rifle. The notches will have to be filled with inletted patches. Instead of fitting semi-circular inlays, I would suggest doing dovetailed repairs in the style of repairs done by armourers.

I've got a "Shooter" P14 that sits in a restored DP stock like you have. The tough thing to find is the rear handguard. When the hole was drilled into the barrel, it cut a half-circle in both pieces - the forestock and rear handguard. The forestock can be repaired without too much difficulty, but not the rear handguard. Finding one will be tough. I saw a few for sale at a US gun show for $45 which was a good price IMO.

The stock is a "fatboy" p-14 stock, early type before they streamlined the forearm. I have a spare hardwood rear hand guard, PM me if your interested.

P14's had volley sights during WWI, removed after the war as they were considered obsolete.

The groove was made so you could see the volley dial lever, That's the fatboy style. The dial plate is not the same as the SMLE dial plate, the increments are different, the arm is also slightly longer (and harder to find). There are a few people who make repro arms.

Here's a site that has P-14 volley site info:ht tp://www.enfield-stuff.com/tools/notebook/P14_Rem_Volley.htm
