P-38 / P-1 luger

holy crap! That's a good deal! Go with the p38 over the p1. The P38 has a wartime pedigree that the P1's(which are postwar German police pistols IIRC) do not. The only thing that would put me off is if they are import marked. SIR had a batch a year or 2 ago that had a MASSIVE electropencil import marking on the side of the slide. Hideous. To give you an idea of how good a deal tradex is offering, SIR's graffittied P38's were $750!

As far as quality and enjoyment, P38's are an excellent choice. They are well engineered, accurate, and have some safety features that make them superb beginners pistols. Buy it!

I don't understand why people would pay more for a P38, should be the other way around...
 
I just ordered one of the $225 P1s with a spare mag this morning. I'll let you know what it's like as soon as it arrives.

very good decision...
this guns are a great value for the money...
they are in the same price range as Norinco hand guns, however their design, fit and finish absolutely superior....

PS: their superior finish makes it impossible to get your thumb cut...:D:D:D

The P1's don't all have the fat slide and hex pin. The older ones don't but were sometimes upgraded with various parts when they made subsequent trips to the Walther factory.

Each gun needs to be examined to see what it has installed. I'm sure all of them are quite strong regardless of what you read on the internet. Stick to the light target loads for most of your shooting, don't ever load +P ammo, and consider buying a set of replacement springs for the gun.

I have a steel framed WWII P38 and its an excellent shooter. It feeds HP ammo nicely too.
