Nice guns, I had blue 29-2 and a stainless version like the one David Rasche had from the cheesey 80's tv show Sledge Hammer:p One thing for sure, don't feed them a steady diet of hot loads, they will shoot loose and require servicing, Ah the memories.

Its because of this that I personally have sworn off buying used wheel guns. Am I nuts??

Yes, yes you are! Jk ;)

But seriously it is a concern. However, I've only encounters two wheelies in my gunwhoring ways that needed to be serviced.

So out of let's say 20 or so wheelies, two needed a gun smith.

It's a risk for any used firearm but so far been pretty lucky.

On the upside, Murray Charlton in around for S&W work and there are a few smiths that deal with Rugers.

For Colts it's a lot more difficult to find good smith in Canada.

and I have had a 'few'. To date I've never experienced any problem such as them shooting loose and all have been fed primarily a diet of heavy loads.

There is something I have noticed and have dropped my loads a little as a result. That difference, to me, is todays Alliant 2400 seems to be a little hotter than the old Hercules 2400.

With Colts, Ruger and S&W wheel guns, the only particular make and model I have experienced the shooting loose problem with using a steady diet of heavy loads is the K frame S&W in 357 Magnum. One model 19 and the same with a pair of 66's.

Those guns are so heavy, that they should come with wheels. They make my Freedom Arms 454 feel light.:p

:)The 500 S&W are definately a two hand hold requirement. Yes, they are heavy but after squeezing off full house loads, especially with the heavier cast or jacketed bullets available, you'll wish it was evan heavier to help absorb even more of the recoil. I went to a set of custom grips which helped 'tame' the recoil even more effectively than the rubber Hogue grips it came supplied with. $1,250.oo, the price is decent. As an added note, mine seems to shoot well, reguardless of what loads I push through it, heavy or light and cast or jacketed bullets.
