Just purchased a Stevens 200 in 308 from our supportive friends at P & D for the upcoming deer and bear seasons here in Ontario, and am now considering appropriate scopes, rings, and bases.

This is my first boltgun so am looking for a mid-range (i.e. +/- $300) scope setup that is easy to install/maintain/remove and is also provides relatively good quality optics for the price (i.e. best bang for the buck). NOte that the gun is drilled and tapped, I think, so if you know of a decent setup that is ready to go, please let me know.

I read an article that mentioned a Simmons almost felt made for the model. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and I am open to all suppliers in that range.

Thanks

Brian

Here's my recommendation, if your a close cover hunter try the 2-7 Busnell Legend($150) if you like to put it out there or have the opportunity at longer shots the 3200 Elite Bushnell, in 3-9x40 is good ($300) As for rings even the short action Savage has a very long gap between the mounting holes so either you buy the long rear base by Weaver, or do what I did I put on Millett Turn in bases and rings they are actually reverse base which helps close the gap thus allowing you more fore and aft movement of the scope. The set ran me $75. Another option is a B-Square rail base, and regular Weaver style rings(dont have to be Weaver just compatable with a Weaver base)
Good luck

My Stevens 308 is wearing a Genuine Chinese knock-off Leupold Mark 4 scope on her. $150, and one of the best bargains around. Overall fantastic glass and features. It would be a bargain at twice the price

I think a Leupold VXI in 2X7 power would be nice little scope for your rifle, assuming that the area you hunt isn't wide open country. Leupold's warranty is tough to beat, plus they're nice scopes for the money. These scopes go for about $300 at Wholesale Sports.

Where do you find these? I'm in Edmonton, too. :)

Thanks, Jeff.

Had a Stevens 200 in 7mm-08... I would've scoped it for deer season with a matte Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm. Weaver bases and steel Burris "Z" or B-Square Lynx rings.
