Hi.

Made a thread about this before but now i actually have the rifle. I mentioned before the bolt wasn't numbered, but it is and matching to the rifle. Uncommon?
Just need some help in identifying some of the markings on the top two pics. I assume the star in the receiver is the 'update' that happend through the arsenal? Whats the number 2 represent?

Thanks again.

BM Birmingham Military proof mark a civilian stamp placed on British military arms before 1955.

D3Vin: The "2" on the receiver indicates the rifle has the later type action body with a feed ramp modification. The serial number on the bolt handle is standard. The barrel and rear sight leaf should have the same number stamped. Looks like a nice rifle. They can be extremely accurate- what is the bore like?

Bore is somewhat grey but will probably clean up. Rifling is solid with little to no frost in the grooves. Will probably get it re-crowned by a gunsmith.

It's been my experience that "grey" bores don't clean up unless some sort of abrasive is used to polish them. That being said, if it shoots well just leave it alone and clean accordingly.

One thing about this rifle is I can easily seat 6 rounds in the magazine. I thought it was only the p17 30-06 that had a 6 round mag capacity?

try it out before you recrown, it might shoot just fine as is and a recrown unless well done will detract from originality
