Since Frank D. Haas's book hasn't come to my doorstep yet, I'm curious about Enfield markings other than the well known E, R, and W? Are there any other identifiers that one should look for?

Thanks guys:wave:

Wait for the book. :D
There are at least 150 different Marks & Markings on the Pattern 14 (No3Mk1, No3Mk1* and Mk1*(T)) and M1917 rifles. Their bayonets also have a myriad of marks and markings.
I guess the most basic markings to look for if you want a "matching" rifle are the stock markings. Remington is marked "IR", Eddystone is marked "IE" and Winchester is marked "IW".
Original US Production Pattern 14 rifles manufactured before Dec 1916 are serial numbered on the receivers only.

Until recently, I had an all matching #'s 1916 made Winchester Pattern14 that had its serial # also on the bolt (handle) Was a 20,### range, so fairly early. Stock was cutdown unfortunately, traded to a local buddy for a 1905R Ross Sporter.

Never again....BUT!

Today I picked up a P14 which is all complete except for a cut stock. Barrel and sights are original. It is serial numbered on the barrel, receiver ring and bolt handle...all matching. I wanted a shooter and the barrel on this one was better than any I had seen prior. It has many interesting marks which I was hoping would be covered here. Many parts have an "E" stamped so I expect it's Eddystone. Broad arrow and crossed swords and a large ERA....also a star or flower like symbol on the receiver. One very small stamped name on rifle receiver and barrel which looks like "NOTEN******". Pic attached. Another toy. Now looking for a full military stock....unlikely, I know...or a full wood rifle with a sewer pipe bore. Not much $$$ paid so really nothing to lose. Dave

When did ERA start production? I have a 4 digit 1916 dated ERA with bolt, barrel, and receiver s/n.

My P14 is quite a lovely mutt full of markings, but near as I can tell it has a...
ERA receiver.
Winchester barrel.
Remington bolt.
:D

I still need a full wood kit for it. :(

My source doesn't give an exact month of production, but Eddystone produced 604,941 Pattern 14 rifles from 1916-1917. Your rifle appears to be marked just "ERA" and the serial number...? (Eddystone Remington Arms).

the fine print

Danforth - I have seen this stamp on several firearms sold in the UK but not made there - it says NOT ENGLISH MAKE. Usually this is on military firearms, since they often didn't have a manufacturer marked them anywhere.
