anyone what side mount to use for a p14 Enfield.
my action has the ear removed but looks like someone did it with an angle grinder and it tapers slightly toward the charger slot? and is lower then the front of the action so bases would have to be shimmed if I went with drilling and tapping with normal bases.

I installed a Weaver No. 1 side mount, then used the short side mount ring assembly, on a similar to yours M1917 rifle. Looks "different", but avoids the issue of the squareness and levelness of the rear bridge grind. Actually, worked out quite usable with a Tasco 1.75-5x32. With some creativity, can usually fit some sort of rear aperture on the bridge, if the barrel still has the front sight.
As you have no doubt discovered, some of them are very hard!!! If you want to try drill and tap into the bridge, be aware!! I do not recall any issues at all going into the side of the action.

On the Weaver scope base chart - under "Enfield" - "with receiver cut like" Rem 30. Calls for the #1 side mount. Rem 30 were made by Remington from M1917 receivers. For your purposes, they are identical to P14, along the left side of the action and in relation to the bore line.

there wont be any sights on this old girl due to me using a heavy profile barrel(not enough taper for irons) its getting rebarreled into 6mm Musgrave(.243-.303) I do wish I had a sporter barrel but I found this on here cheap so that's what its getting. I did not find the bridge hard then again I did use a chainsaw raker file to test it.
