I have a Remington P14 I am using in the Calgary Vintage shoot this June. I have always used spitzer bullets till now with no feed problems. Due to the lack of bullets out there for reloading, I am using a round nose 174 grain. They tend to jam on feed about one out of three times. Any suggestions? Thanks

Use pointed Spitzer bullets. The feed ramps on this rifle was designed for the Mark VII .303 load and the surfaces of the ramp is made to properly guide these shaped bullets into the chamber.

A round nosed bullet has more area in the nose. When it it pushed into the chamber from the magazine, this larger diameter front of the bullet either hangs up (jams) or because of the larger diameter, pushes the nose of the cartridge up too far to enter the chamber.

If necessary, you might use the round nosed bullets for slow fire, and buy a couple of boxes of factory rounds with more pointed bullets for those events where time is more critical.

It may be possible to work the bolt a bit faster or slower than normal and see if this might help in chambering these round nosed bullets. You could make up 3 o 4 "dummy" rounds and experiment a bit, or try this when on the range with live ammo.

On the BSA modded rifles, the guide rails were ground to be more open at the front of the mag. Having looked at several, they appear to have been done by hand. They will feed a round nose, with varying degrees of success. One of mine appears to have been ground too much, causing the front of the cartridge to slip by the rail, and in some cases it is released from the magazine entirely.
Not sure I'd contemplate this mod myself, as it is permanent. FWIW - I tend to shoot 150 gr spritzers anyway...

I saw that it would be an easy mod to let the cartaiges ride higher and feed. This however would alter the rifle for little good purpose. I will probably rarely shoot the round nosed bullets. I will have to load single shot for the compeition or rework my reloads and ballistics. I'll let it be for now. Thanks guys.
