P14 hinged floor plate availability

Dies such an animal as a hinged floor plate for a P14 exist ?
I would like to find one for a project that has been underway for about 40 years now!:p

Saw a chapter in a book once on how to make one, involved some cutting and brazing and making a new release, as I recall.

I dont know of any. There are/were a couple gunsmiths in the states like Duane Weibe and Dayton Traister as well that see various P17/14 bits, but no one that I know of sells hinged floor plates.

I'm sure that Blackburn made some although they may have been for a modified p-14. Not sure if anyone is making one now. I Made a couple of conversions which worked out OK but I wasn't proud of them by any stretch. I have a P14 to work with so maybe I'll try something out and if I like it, I'll let you know.

I have Dayton Traister's book and it shows how to do it but it is pretty involved and I may get after it this winter- or not! I'd rather just shoot the danged thing, it's a pretty cool rifle

That would be fantastic, Bill, thanks!

Bevan King converted lots of them, and told me that the job was no more difficult than doing a Mauser. Straightening the plate took an extra thirty minutes, the rest was the same.

The more difficult part was altering the mag box and grinding the rails to get the feeding perfect.

A Square now owned by the Broadsword Group, still uses M-17 actions , so it might be worth a call to see if a hinged floorplate could be acquired from them. From the look of the photo on their web page they might have dropped the drop magazine in favor of the trim lines of a standard capacity one.

It might be worth talking to the folks at Sunny Hill to see if they can help you out, they make a drop box bottom metal for Mausers intended for big bore African cartridges, but sometimes a call can produce unexpected results, particularly if you don't get anywhere with A Square or Blackburn.

I have Dwaine Weib floor plate made a few years ago for my Rem model 30 Express project, great fellow to deal with, very beautiful job he did. Ran around $350 by the time I got it home.
If you want a picture of it, PM me here.
