I just picked what I believe is a p14 drill or training rifle. Original full wood. D D stamped on nose, band and bolt. 3 painted bands red white red, white half the width of red band. 2 1-2 inches high red painted letters on Butt B on left and F on right. I haven't shot it yet but have fired a primed case. I thought that drill rifles had the chambers drilled through from the side. This one is not drilled. ERA marked.
Is this a drill rifle or something different.

Thanks for for helping in advance.

Most of those rifles that were "DP"ed had around 5/8" diameter holes drilled into each side of the stock just ahead of the receiver, bisecting the rear handguard and stock. As such, if you removed the rear handguard, they would appear as half circular grooves on each side of the stock and rear handguard. The hole drilled through the barrel at this point, was usually much smaller. If yours has an intact barrel, but has the holes in the stock, and or handguard, then someone has likely taken a sporterized barreled action and installed it into a "DP"ed stock set in an effort to re-militarize the rifle. Sometimes, guy's will fill in the half circle grooves in the stocks with pieces of walnut in an effort to make it more presentable. Usually, this is quite noticeable when done.
