P14 Winchester star

I've just acquired a sporterized WP14 that has a mismatched bolt. The bolt has a W stamped on it so at least it's a all Winchester. Now here's the question the bolt and receiver both have a star stamped on them. What does that represent? I had a matching WP14 and ERAP14 that didn't have them

The Star modification came partway through production and had to do with the length of the Left-hand Locking Lug of the Bolt.

A LONG left-hand Lug will not fit into a SHORT Receiver recess.

A LONG Receiver Recess will accept either bolt.

Sort of a 1-way interchangeability.

In official papers, the rifles were segregated by Star and No Star, just to keep things straight.
