P14s & 17s in odd calibers.

Adding to my questions above...So what is involved in modifying the standard .303 brass to accept the 6.5 bullet?

I have done it using 7X57 die first, then a 250-3000 die to finish in my 25-303 which was on a No4 Mk1* SMLE and was very accurate.

You could do the same using a 6.5X55 die to finish. The P14 will handle much higher pressures with good case life, so sounds like you have a winner! :D

The P14 that I am looking to modify will be rebarreled to a cartridge that I have yet to select. Rather then going to a larger bore I am mostly interested in a medium bore cartridge.
The ones that I most interested in are the 425 Westly Richards; the 404 Jeffery; or the 416 Rigby, Remmington or Weatherby. As a alaternative, I may well go to a 375 H&H. At least the ammo situation would be simpler.
Or I could go to a 340 Weatherby or a 358 Norma Magnum.

Noel,
Interesting project. Doesn't matter that it's not a 14/17, interesting counts.
The first Weatherby rifles in .378 Wby. were based on P14 actions. They are big enough to take the very large rounds and are very strong. I have a new .416" barrel here waiting for a project. I am thinking a .416 Rigby again, maybe the P14 is the way to go.
I know Bevan King has made a few .585 Nyati's on P14s too.
