P220 barrel blueing help

Just got a Sig P220 and I'm trying to figure out what the barrel is made of. It was a dark colour (I'm assuming it's blued) until 200 rounds went through it and now it just looks like crap (all scratched). Can I wet sand this and make it shiny? or should i just keep retouching the blueing. Thanks in advance from a total noob!:beerchug:
 
It's the nature of the beast that the bluing will wear on the exterior of your barrel. Touching it up will only give you a mag or two likely, then it'll look like poop again. I'ld be hesitant to sand it at all, but if you insist you could polish it using an extremely fine grade of paper(read 600 grit, and then work down to 1000)...hope this helps somewhat...
 
strip the rest of the bluing off with some muriatic acid and water solution.
Rinse it really well in hot water and polish or just leave it in the white.
As long as you keep the gun clean and oiled it should never rust.
 
When the barrel needs a change, you can also get a stainless one like one from Barsto....but really, is it really that important to be all shiny and markless on the barrel?

yes. yes it is :D I actually don't want it shiny to tell you the truth, if I could find a way for it to stay black I'd rather do that. But I know any coat I put on it will just come off again. So, rather than have a scratched up blue finish i'd rather just have it one solid colour (black or steel). I dont want it mirror finished or anything.

Thanks for the suggestions! I might try getting some hydrochloric acid ;) Too bad this barrel isn't stainless. I'd get a new barrel, but this one has only 200 rounds through it and I can't justify it yet :)
