p226 .22LR Refinishing

Does anyone know what slide of the .22 kit for the p226 is made out of??? I want to refinish the slide and bluing would be easiest, but im not sure if it is made of aluminum or what. The slide is pretty light compared to a 9mm slide.

Naturally cant blue aluminum and I dont want to try to wreck it (and get that horrible smell!)

What other paint/finishing options are there (that dont break the bank)?

I don't know what it is made out of, but if it's made of aluminum then you can always anno it and there are companies out there that do some very cool anno jobs

It's an aluminum slide with a Nitron finish.

so any reasonable "at home" finishing options out there for aluminum?

Would I have to fully strip the nitron finish before applying anything or just rough it up a bit?

Could try dura coating it.. I don't think it'll be as strong as the original coating however

I agree about the new coating wont likely be as durable, however the original coating was partially stripped already when I got it
